Song of the Day: Terminal - Not All Bad
Since it’s snowing today, I feel like this Monday deserves an emo song (it’s not even Halloween yet!). “Not All Bad” is one of the more hopeful Terminal tracks, with its bright guitar strums and lyrics that fight against self-deprecation and apathy. Maybe if the snow doesn’t let up, I’ll blare this song outside and try to melt it with some musical positivity?… Continued →

White Collar Sideshow - Break On Through (To the Other Side) (Video In Post)
Yet to disappoint, White Collar Sideshow has dropped a new video this past week for their cover of The Doors track, “Break On Through (To the Other Side)”. The band’s take on it is consistent with the edgy southern hard rock feel we’ve heard off their other releases off the upcoming album, “I Didn’t Come Here To Die”, set for release on October 4th on Curtain Call Records. Check out the video below and tell us what you think.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Ana Sapphira - Rain Song
Rarely do I hear music and feel as though I was meant to hear it. However common it is to hear good songs, bad songs, and even very impressive ones, a lot of music doesn’t strike me as having significance beyond random chance. Earlier this month though, there was a day when I was listening to “Rain Song” by Ana Sapphira over and over. I decided to visit their Facebook page shortly after, and sadly, it looks like the band broke up last year. I first heard “Rain Song” in a HeartSupport video featuring lead singer Jonathan Lamper, which I will also include below.… Continued →

Thrice Announce 15th Anniversary Tour for Landmark Album, Vheissu
Thrice have just announced plans for a 15th anniversary tour in honor of their landmark album, “Vheissu”. Vheissu originally released in 2005 via Island Records that was met with a heavy dose of critical acclaim and a bit of negativity from the rabid early years fan base. For me it was a beautiful, musically rich and engaging, endearing album that has stood the test of time. I still remember hearing the song or two on a Burnout game and being so psyched for the band. Regardless of what you think of their 3 prior full lengths up until 2005, this album really set the pace for what was to come.… Continued →

In very much the same fashion as their more recent single, “I Didn’t Come Here To Die”, White Collar Sideshow has released their next single, “Break On Through (To the Other Side)”, a Doors cover set to their own take on it, which is especially enjoyable. Song of the Day: GS Megaphone - Dream
Take me past familiar waters to a place so deep / it reserves itself for the eyes of those who dream. “Dream” by GS Megaphone communicates the essence of God-as-artist, the One in whom “we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28). Taken from their album Beautiful World (2003), it is a reminder that God is the source of all creativity. So often our imaginations are caught in a torrent of meaningless distractions, and still, the opportunity for metanoia (Greek term for changing one’s mind) awaits us in and through Christ’s grace.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Number One Gun - This Holiday
The North Pole Project (2008) wasn’t supposed to be a Number One Gun album. Rather, this was once the name of vocalist/guitarist Jeff Schneeweis’ solo project in the aftermath of Number One Gun’s breakup. In any case, The North Pole Project is a beautiful indie rock anthem. Not only did Schneeweis play every instrument on the album, but he also produced and mixed it. In these songs, he goes beyond some of the margins of the band’s past work, and this is best exemplified by closing song “This Holiday.”… Continued →

Release Recap - July 2019: Rock & Metal Edition
Last night I decided I would skip my regularly scheduled Song of the Day post in favor of a monthly recap post. As it turns out though rock is far from dead and my recap post end up being entirely rock and metal releases. Ain’t nothing wrong with that right!?
The month started off a pair of new singles from Sweden. After 8 years of silence, Blindside returned with a new song titled “Gravedigger” and Narnia dropped their second single off their upcoming album From Darkness to Light due out August 2nd.… Continued →

REVIEW : Skillet - Victorious
I got my first taste of Skillet in the early 2000’s just after I came to know the Lord. I was drawn to their raw, gritty, heavy sound because, musically, I heard some similarities to Marilyn Manson, a band I’d been a tremendous fan of in my B.C. days. As the years went by, as is to be expected, the band’s sound changed a bit, mellowing here and there, adding string sections, adding electronic sounds (or at least making them a bit more prominent), having a much more produced sound, songs that are more radio friendly…the list goes on.… Continued →

Song of the Day: RELIC - Life on Earth
“Life on Earth” is one of my favorite singles of 2019. And as of this weekend it’s no longer just a single anymore as it found its way on to an EP. High Hopes is RELIC’s second EP and is comprised of three songs perfect for fans of NEEDTOBREATE, Kings of Leon, and The Rocketboys. RELIC is Jake Baker (vocals, guitar), Nathan Slonaker (drums), and Elias Lopez (bass). The rock n’ roll outfit is based out of Dallas, Texas. Give “Life of Earth” a listen on YouTube below.… Continued →

DIY Together
Zach Bridier of Captive Portal, and October Bird of Death (not to mention DBD Tapes) has put together a pretty impressive punk rock collaboration album titled “DIY Together”. It features singers from bands around the globe lending their voice for each track on the release. This is heavy yet melodic, blunt, in your face, and enlightening raw punk. A lot of these songs are great, my favorite being Track #7 which you can take a listen to below. Make sure to support this DIY Together release by downloading right here via bandcamp.… Continued →
Song of the Day: Lucerin Blue - Chorus of the Birds
Here’s a song from Canada’s own, Lucerin Blue, who released Tales of the Knife in 2003 on Tooth & Nail Records. While the album is stacked with great alternative rock songs, “Chorus of the Birds” resonates. One of these reasons, I think, is that it was also featured on The Nail, Vol. 1, a classic T&N compilation. As a bonus, a video of Lucerin Blue performing live at Cornerstone 2003 has been added to the bottom of the post.… Continued →
