Yesterday, Peter118 released a new track on Raven Faith Records called “Waiting” and it really took me by surprise. For those acquainted with the Peter118 sound, you’re in for a big surprise as well. Up to this point, the band has played an edgy, raw punk rock, but this is like Peter118 meets Green Day (Nimrod/Warning era) meets 90s grunge and truthfully, the 90s grunge part stands out the most. This song is very well written, catchy as anything, and displays a real growth in songwriting.… Continued →

So, 2018 is behind us, another year on the books. After having put together a list of my favorite releases for the year, I decided to try going in the opposite direction and form a list of the albums I’m anticipating most in the coming year. I bring you unfortunate news today. Loving father and well regarded scene veteran and minister, Skip Brooks, has just lost his battle with Cancer. He leaves behind a loving wife and children. So a few months back, a Christian deathcore/hardcore band from Matamoros, Mexico took the scene by storm with their message of faith, hope, and love that comes through Christ our Saviour. Detroit post-hardcore duo American Arson have returned from a brief hiatus with the explosive-yet-catchy single, “Rise”, which you should definitely check out below. “Rise” opens with the pair’s trademark grit, before seamlessly going into a sing-along bit. The track shimmers with some of the most melodic elements we’ve seen from American Arson to date – the chorus is catchy and there’s a shimmering, synth-like ambiance at play that gives it a fair share of pop sensibility. However, if you’re familiar with the group, you’ll know their song structures stray from predictable and that’s certainly the case and the track oscillates from certainly-going-to-be-stuck-in-your-head to mosh-pit-inducing.… Continued →
