REVIEW : War of Ages - Void

Two thousand and nineteen has proven to be quite the year. One day, a bunch of rowdy hooligans on Facebook are planning how best to invade Area 51, and the next, there’s a War of Ages occurring on planet Djent. Void places an emphasis on groove, which is kicked into full gear by track three, “Blood of the Earth.” That being said, the more conservative fans need not fret; War of Ages are still our metalcore heroes from Mars. “Sulphur and Salt” – a Star Wars metal opera – capitalizes on what is perhaps the band’s greatest virtue: epic choruses.… Continued →

My Epic Unleash Their Heavy New Track "White Noises" (Feat. Cory Brandan)

My Epic are back with a new song titled “White Noises” featuring Cory Brandan the frontman for Norma Jean. If you don’t know who My Epic are and aren’t familiar with Cory’s work, check out this song! This is an explosive, glass shattering heavy new track with enough sonic depth that it simply overwhelms the senses. I think there are three different fans of My Epic, the ones who love the light stuff (Broken Voice), the heavy “Behold”, and the ones who appreciation EVERYTHING the band does.… Continued →

Sleeping Giant Farewell Documentary That You All Need to See

The Sleeping Giant documentary is equal parts joy and sadness. You feel uplifted by the band’s message and testimony but a bit of sadness overwhelms when the realization sets in that this is the band’s swan song. It’s a great piece of work and a fitting reminder of the power of heavy music on the masses. This band may not have been a worldwide mainstream success story like say Imagine Dragons or Cardi B (barf) but none of that mattered when you saw the band’s overall message of love and hope for a lost world.… Continued →

Best of 2018: Rob Jensen

2018 had a number of great albums, all of which I couldn’t list here, but after careful consideration, these are my top 20, none of which are listed lightly. See which ones you’d have picked out and maybe find some new music to check out. And please remember, if you do end up finding something new, please support the artist by picking up some of their music! 1. Amongst The Giants – Obscene Part of the roster of the fairly new label, Rockfest Records, this hard rock/metal outfit released not just the best album of 2018, but the best in their genre over the past few years.… Continued →

REVIEW : Weathered - Stranger Here

Weathered is Facedown Records newest addition and is unarguably the most anticipated release in some time in the scene. While Facedown prides itself on an always esteemed roster of metal bands, the signing of Weathered might be a head scratcher, if the album wasn’t so good. Starting the Minnesota 4-piece’s first LP, “Burn” prepares the listener for what the album has to offer. The first track starts off with clean and reverb-filled guitar as vocalist Justin Hieb sings with an eeriness and creates an atmosphere the likes of which Brand New would be jealous.… Continued →
