In case you don’t know, The Rumors Are True is a fantastic podcast extremely relevant to our scene. Past episodes have featured Bryan Gray of the The Blamed, Ted Cookerly of Every Day Life, Jeff Bellew of Stavesacre/The Crucified/so much more, and hundreds more. Rumors recently did a double-episode whammy on the band Bleach, an artist long-time IVMers will certainly be familiar with.
Fortunately for fans, the band has recently reunited. They are playing Furnace Fest this October in Birmingham, AL and they’re even playing a show TONIGHT in Jacksonville, FL.… Continued →

Song of the Day: The Remnants - Nobody Home
The Remnants (not to be confused with Remnant, The Remnant, nor Remnant Militia) was a punk band originally formed in Alabama in the late 90s, but then transplanted to Chicago sometime in the 2000s, where they had a connection to JPUSA and Grrrr Records. The band was a part of a sort of hardcore punk revival that was taking place in the late 90s/early 00s, a movement that included bands like Headnoise, The Discarded, Combat Junkies and a handful of others.
The band’s early material featured tried and true punk sounds (no pop-punk here) mixed with a raw rock and roll influence, drawing influences from the L.A.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Viva Voce - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
My favorite Christmas songs tend to be the traditional carols. Sure, I love a good cheesy secular holiday tune every now and then (“Let it Snow” anyone?), but I find the deep theology of the carols to be particularly meaningful, and therefore apropos for the season. Having said that, there are also some wonderful contemporary renderings of the traditional tunes.
Viva Voce was an indie rock band, centered on wife-husband duo Anita and Kevin Robinson. Originally from Alabama, they transplanted to Portland, OR somewhere along their musical (and geographical) journey.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Lugsole - Out of Place
Lugsole was a noisy indie rock band from Birmingham AL with hints of post-punk and emo in their sound. Despite a significant number of releases–both independent and label-issued–they remained a fairly obscure act, whose fans were either music critics or diehard independent music aficionados. Recorded output begins in 1995 and ends in 1998, and in those four short years, they managed to release three cassette demos (two EPs and one full-length), a split 7″ with Dear Ephesus, an EP on compact disc via Daddy-O Records (who also released the first Dear Ephesus recordings), and a 3-way split CD with mainstream acts The Paper Chase and E-Class.… Continued →

Song of the Day: All In - Charles Barkley
All In released 2 LPs on & then fell away into obscurity from what I gather. Their 2nd cd was very different in that every song is titled after someone in basketball’s Olympic dream team. They are hardcore & appears to have had 5 members. Anyways, love this song.… Continued →

Song of the Day: The Louvin Brothers - Satan's Jeweled Crown
Some of you are going to hate me for including this (what?!? country music on IVM?!?) Others of you–maybe only a few–will recognize the importance this type of music played on the development of both rock and roll (which somewhat ironically owes a huge debt to country music), as well as to contemporary forms of Christian music, because of the strong relationship between country music and Gospel music in the middle part of the last century.
Brothers Ira and Charlie Louvin began playing and singing together in the 1940s in their home in Alabama, and later branching out to nearby Tennessee.… Continued →

Song of the Day: MyChildren MyBride - god of Nothing
MyChildren MyBride is a metalcore band from Alabama. This SOTD was probably my fave song in 2013. It has always served as a reminder that the devil does not rule my life no matter how many times I fall as a Christian. YHWH is always waiting for me with open arms.

Song of the Day: Gideon - Leif Erickson
Gideon is a melodic hxc band from Alabama. I saw them in their early incarnation when they just switched vocalists to Daniel Mcwhorter. Actually interviewed Timothy Naugher back in college. This specific song was chosen due to the show I just got through Vikings Valhalla which is set 100 years after the original series. Leif is heavily portrayed in the show. Lift your hands in worship to this one!
MY GOD IS LOVE!!!!
Pour out your Grace
Rain down your love
You are the Joy,
That floods my heart
NEVER AGAIN!!… Continued →

Song of the Day: Nine Lashes - Anthem of the Lonely
Nine Lashes is a modern rock band from Alabama that always seemed to be a band (at least in their first few releases) that should have been huge in the mainstream. Check out this catchy song, but also the ballad Surrender. And yes, they are still going having released a single in 2021.
