Decayed Existence - The Beginning of Sorrows
By Ryan Swope in Reviews | 1 Comment
Rottweiler Records teamed up with Death Metal titans, Decayed Existence, for a fun, brutal exercise in heaviness.
This EP is short and to the point. Decayed Existence leave nothing to the imagination as they pummel the listener via 5 tracks of brand new material. (And 3 live tracks.)
At first glance, Decayed Existence is an Old School Death Metal band. But, after a couple listens, Decayed Existence prove that you can teach an old dog new tricks.
Decayed Existence does a great job at toeing the line between the old and the new. From the artwork to the production to the overall vibe, this is an OSDM release. But, they toss in some ‘core elements that wouldn’t stray far from a band like Voluntary Mortification. There is some groove here and there and even some doomy parts thrown in like in the track, “Beginning of Sorrows”.
One thing that sets these guys apart is the vocals. Aside from some disgusting gurgles here and there, the vocals aren’t guttural to the point you can’t understand them. I dig the vocals on this because you can, for the most part, understand the lyrics. And the lyrical content is a big part of their ministry.
So, to wrap this up, if you dig OSDM with some modern elements thrown in, you will dig this EP from Decayed Existence. If you are a fan of the Rottweiler Records label, you will dig this. The production is solid, even on the live tracks. Rottweiler, like always, does a killer job in releasing underground bands and making them sound and look awesome.
The Beginning of Sorrows is a rad release. Check them out.
Cool stuff. I really enjoyed this release!
