November 24, 2016
On November 23, 2016, Metal Hammer wrote an article about the top 10 essential Christian metal albums. I agreed for the most part with their list. But there were a few that I thought, “why would you pick those albums?” Read the article, and comment what albums you would vote as the Top 10 essentials and then, maybe, we’ll do an article on it, with an average of your votes. I know that I would vote Living Sacrifice’s Reborn rather than probably any other album on their list.… Continued →

REVIEW : Decyfer Down - The Other Side Of Darkness
The North Carolina rockers known as Decyfer Down came back from oblivion with “Scarecrow” in 2013. It was a surprise of an album venturing into riffs and southern hooks that took heavy influences from vocalist TJ Harris and his previous band Fighting Instinct. The album was a sweet breath from what one might expect from the radio-ready rock group. Unfortunately, “Scarecrow” received mix reception and fell under too many radars. The good news is that they’re back with a heavier effort and look to be sticking around.… Continued →

REVIEW : The Brilliance - All Is Not Lost
Worship music has always held a troubled place in my heart and my music collection. Looking at the genre from a spiritual level, I know that I, as a believer, should have an affinity to music created to glorify God. The reality is that I find the majority worship music to be contrived, repetitive, and failing to deliver any degree of originality. Now that my wrath has been vented I can carry on to admit that there are a limited number of artists who seek to break the stifled norms and produce quality worship songs.… Continued →
5 Christian Metal Bands You May Not Have Heard Of (80's/90's Version)
Today, I am posting a list of Christian Metal bands from the old days that aren’t mentioned very often when talking about Christian metal. Most of them tend to be Nu-metal, ironically, even though the 90’s was the time for Nu-Metal/Rapcore.
5. Oficina G3
Oficina G3 is a Christian prog metal act from the late 80’s. Forming in 1987, the band began as a heavy metal/hard rock band, influenced by Stryper and Petra, but progressed into a Progressive metal/nu-metal/metalcore-ish band. This band was most likely thrown out, due to this period, when the Christian thrash scene had just hit it’s stride, with the Big 4 of the Christian scene: Deliverance, Vengeance Rising, Tourniquet and Believer.… Continued →

Little Hurricane Signs to Mascot Label Group
San Diego, CA. alt-blues act Little Hurricane, have signed with Mascot Label Group. The label along with the band’s own imprint, Death Valley Records will release the band’s new album in early 2017. This will be the band’s 3rd full length effort following both “Homewrecker” and “Gold Fever”. Little Hurricane features Anthony “Tone” Catalano (Lead vocals, guitar) and Celeste “CC” Spina (Drums, BGV). I worked with Anthony a bit last decade in the early 00’s when his former band Next in Line was signed to Indie Vision Music.… Continued →
Anberlin to (Possibly) Press Vinyl Box Set One More Time
Anberlin which broke up in 2014, has stayed relatively busy behind the scenes with producing an incredible (that I wished I owned) Vinyl box set featuring all 7 full length releases along with a coffee table book. As was expected, the vinyl box set sold out a few months after going on sale, all 1000 copies sold out. Sellers across third party sites are marking these things up double and triple from what they originally went on sale at. It’s crazy. I waited too late personally and due to unforeseen circumstances wasn’t able to purchase when it was on sale.… Continued →

Alex Sugg's latest release as Glowhouse is an interesting mix of R&B vocals, synth lines, and vulnerable lyrics.

The Ongoing Concept Loses 3/4 Lineup(?)
Recently, I discovered The Ongoing Concept. Ok, well I had heard of them before, just was never interested. I downloaded the Son of Screamfest 2016 compilation and heard “Prisoner”. I followed up with listening to “Cover Girl”, “Failures and Fakes” and “Saloon”. I did a little more research, and discovered something. It seems that Brothers Kyle and Parker Scholz and friend TJ Nicholz seem to have left the band. Leaving Dawson Scholz, the remaining brother, the main member. There was no mention of the members departure at all, but there were several pictures with another lineup.… Continued →
REVIEW : Send the Advocate - Revelation: Act 1 - Seven Seals
Muncie, IN metalcore act Send the Advocate has released a promising debut EP, but can they move past the pitfalls of an oversaturated genre?
For All Eternity Start Work on Third Album
For All Eternity, the Christian melodic metalcore band, has started to work on the demos for their third album. After the release of Metanoia, the band hit the ground running. Scoring high in the charts, the album hit 23 in Billboard Christian Albums and 21 in Billboard’s Top Heatseekers Albums. The band teased the recording of demos on November 15, 2016. The band is currently signed to Facedown Records. Here’s a podcast episode Shane Carroll (Vocals) did with As The Story Grows.… Continued →
The Blamed Get Active
The Blamed have begun writing their new EP. This will be the first official new release since 2002. The band has taken a turn back towards more old school punk/thrash sound as found on their early albums. It’s much welcomed in this scene of jaded cynicism and a certain sort of safe complacency. Bring back the hard charging passionate songs of years past! This season is ripe for change. The band recently played Take Hold Fest and a show with Project 86 last night. The band features Wiley Willis (Vocals), Bryan Gray (Guitars), Sid Duffour (Bass), and Jim Chaffin (Drums).… Continued →
TRAMPS Release Debut Ep
TRAMPS the band featuring ex-members of The Wedding and The Overseer have released their debut ep. Filled to the brim with passionate, honest, and heart on the sleeve rock n’ roll. To put it lightly, I’m more than impressed with this debut and feel that it’s one of the strongest debut releases of 2016. There is just something that reeks of pure honesty when listening to these songs. Featuring a slight “punk rock” edge while staying true to straight up dyed in the wool rock n’ roll.… Continued →
