The first time I saw Grave Robber I thought to myself, “These guys are a Christian band?” Not so much because of the look in itself, but because NOBODY in the “Christian music scene” that I know of is doing anything like that. I mean, White Collar Sideshow comes pretty close, but this seemed over the top. So I took a deeper look at what these guys were about and was floored. Awesome idea, very inventive, with a punk sound ala Misfits, with lyrics pointing towards the Reanimator (you can figure that one out I’m sure), and it’s done well. Let’s jump in here and take a look at the band’s most recent release, Exhumed.

Now, Exhumed isn’t exactly a cd of entirely new songs. You can find a good number of them on the bands prior releases, Be Afraid, Inner Sanctum, and The Shovel Is Family, but that doesn’t take away from this release by any means. “Army of the Dead” kicks the album off in old school punk rock fashion and from there don’t expect them to slow up any. The following track, “They Hate You” is actually a cover, the song was originally done by a band called F.B.S. and Grave Robber tears it up. One of my favorite tracks on the album. “Altered States” has a sort of anthemic punk sound to it and if you’re like me at all this song will set up shop in your brain for hours at a time. “Fill This Place With Blood” starts off kinda southern sounding and is probably the heaviest punk offering on the album, great track. “Lion of Judah” is a great song with an old school punk sound to it, and is a cover of a Our Corpse Destroyed song. Are you reading this review around Christmas? Well, you’re in luck! The next track and a great addition to your holiday listening repertoire is a cover of “You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch”. An nice punk flavor on a holiday favorite that the Grinch himself would be in the pit for. In addition to these songs are demo versions of songs found on the other albums for that raw feel of the songs before they’re somewhat polished up. Put it all together and you’ve got yourself a cd that any punk fan would love. Not pop punk, but punk punk.

Overall: If you’re a fan of old school punk, bands like the Misfits, the Dead Kennedy’s, Rancid, etc…these guys will make a great addition to your CD collection. Another cool thing about these guys is their live show is amazing and really something to see, so if you have the chance, make sure you get out to see them, you’ll be glad you did!

  2. Rob J says:

More like rarities mixed with covers and older stuff. About half the album is demos of older material and You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch, They Hate You, Fill This Place With Blood, and Lion Of Judah are new. Although I think at some point there was a vinyl which had Lion of Judah on it, but I could be mistaken. Kinda like a mix of all different kindsa stuff, lol. Either way, it’s a great album!

I think it’s hilarious when I saw this band’s name for the first time/with this cover I think of a death metal band. But it’s old school punk…it’s just brings a smile to my face haha;)

  4. To answer the question, this was originally intended to be an e.p. We are huge fans and friends of FBS and our corpse Destroyed and we were playing the respective songs live, so we wante dto record them. We always wished we could have done a better job on “Army”, so we re-hit that and fixed the issues from the original recording. We had left Retroactive and wanted to do radio promotion for “Altered States”, so we did end up re-hitting that one as well. “Grinch” REALLY needed to be re-recorded, so why not do it now! We had one really good song wrapped up called “Fill this Place With Blood”, which was originally recorded for a Vengeance Rising tribute. The original song really wasn’t written very well, so we re-wrote it and by the time we were done, it was an entirely different song, so it doesn’t even resemble the V.R. song anymore. That was the e.p. Then we had our original demos remastered by Cliffy Huntington, so we thought we’d “Exhume” those tracks ane voila, the album became “Exhumed”.

If you are a fan of Grave Robber, this new cd really is a “must have”, because it puts a final cap on where we’ve traveled to musically before we move on to our next cd. “Exhumed” is not a best of, nor is it an oddities album, it’s just putting a finality to where we are right now. I think it’s a very fun listen and you can get a copy at: Marketing Dissertation.

We intend on recording a new one and having it out by Halloween. Stay tuned!!!

Rob, Lion Of Judah was never recorded by us before this.

  6. Onlyelisha says:

If you guys want bands that are more like grave robber than dead kennedys and rancid(while I feel are pretty accurate comparisons but not as close as you can get), you should check out Blitzkid, Balzac, Calabrese, The Crimson Ghosts, Nim Vind, The Lurking Corpses, Under a Nightmare, The Rosedales, Michale Graves, American Werewolves, early A.F.I., Samhain, The Other, and Mister Monster. They are all punk bands like Grave Robber and The Misfits that are often categorized in the sub-genre of punk music known as Horror Punk.

  7. Wretched says:

    Hey Phil!

I will reset the CdBaby page shortly if you want to download the whole thing.

  8. Wretched says:

Onlyelisha, the only difference between us and every band you listed is that we offer hope in The Reanimator! We believe blood brings cleansing and life, not death. We believe that God in human form paid the ultimate human sacrifice so that we could have real life in Him. So, in that regard Grave Robber is unique.

  9. Chris says:

See this band live. Don’t hesitate. I was blessed to do a show with them, and they’re simply incredible. Possibly the most creative Gospel presentation I’ve ever seen!

  10. Afta listenin 2 the whole album, i def agree wit the review+ ratin. GR rulz!!
