There was a lot of anticipation about this band before they ever released one song. Founder/vocalist Brett Detar had been in Zao, playing on one of their most popular albums, Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest, as well as the unique and creative–and tragically underrated/unheard–emo-core band Pensive before that. With The Juliana Theory, Detar, along with bandmates Neil Hebrank (drums), Chad Alan (bass), Joshua Fiedler (guitars), and Joshua Kisker (guitars) took emo in a more accessible direction. Anberlin have just released their brand new 5 song EP titled “Convinced” and it’s available worldwide today. Thoughts on this new outing from scene faves, Anberlin? I kinda wished they named this EP “Conversate” because it would remind me of my favorite Anberlin album, “Cities”, and just sounds fun. The last ep and this one together make a really diverse set of songs with a sound much more mature and modern in nature. Do I like it personally? I missed posting about this over the long Fourth of July weekend. Was busy with family and health issues. Anyway, one of my personal favorite Rock bands are back in action. Anberlin have announced their signing to Equal Vision (as reported earlier) and just dropped their new single “Circles”. While different, this song invokes a certain familiarity and instant likability. If you are a longtime fan then I’m sure many of you will appreciate the new direction. The Juliana Theory return with a brand new song and news of an ep that’ll drop in May through Equal Vision Records. Check out the new song “Playback ’99 (Burn The Cassette Deck)” below. This is all kinds of fun and the nostalgia runs deep through their veins. I still bump “Understand This is a Dream”, “Emotion Is Dead”, and “Love”, and I definitely still enjoy them.
