Song of the Day: Tunnel Rats - Trz

The most legendary holy hip-hop cipher of them all? Perhaps. Tunnel Rats’ debut Experience (1996) was truly mind-blowing. It’s one of those rare albums where the line between art and artist was completely blurred, if it even existed in the first place. The lyrics (as well as the passion behind them) reflected absolute love of hip-hop music and culture, and absolute love of God and his Gospel. Reading is Listening and Listening is Reading

I’ve enjoyed listening to music much longer than I’ve enjoyed reading books. Reading has only been an interest of mine for the past five years, especially subjects like philosophy, religion, and sociology. What I’ve found through reading books, though, is that it complements listening to music. The relation between books and music in terms of their content, especially lyrically, is undeniable. Even musically, there seems to be room for reading to influence listening, with pictures derived from words being transformed into pictures derived from sound. Deepspace5 - FROWN

After a long period of silence, Deepspace5 return with “FROWN,” taken from their forthcoming project entitled 5:55. The crew’s last album, The Future Ain’t What It Used To Be, was released in 2010 and they are celebrating 20 years as a group. 5:55 will be releasing this Friday on bandcamp, but in the mean time, you can check out the music video for “FROWN” below. Sivion Announces New Album

Deepspace5 representative, Sivion, will be releasing Dark Side of the Cocoon on October 6 via Illect Recordings. Known for his tasteful blend of jazz and hip-hop, the Dallas emcee has teamed up with producer Sebastian Hochstein of Scribbling Idiots.
