If I have at any time over the past four months of writing reviews gained any scene points, street cred. or Dundee awards for anything I’ve written, I’m fully prepared for the chance that I’m going to get them all taken away right now.

Jumping on the bandwagon before it was way overcrowded, Eleventyseven busted out with their sophomore release by adding quite a bit of the now all too familiar electronica to their pop-punk act in quite a diversion, musically, from their first release “and the land of the fake believe”. I know it’s simple. I know it’s a bit cute at times. I know that their writing style is reminiscent of a male version of Krystal Meyers, at least topically. I understand that. I’m okay with that. That doesn’t mean that these songs aren’t mostly both enjoyable pop music and relevant songs that address several subjects that are too often ignored in our country (and maybe yours too, foreign readers?) These guys sound like someone has really gotten through to them on things and they are quick to point out several of our society’s ills, which I believe is what of the main tenets of any form of punk anyway, right? From talking about depression, to self-help junk to the affect of the media on how we act, Eleventyseven is full of anthems of overcoming in times of helplessness. That is, of course, when they aren’t singing about Conan O’Brien, which is a funny song, but doesn’t really fit well with the album.

This album is never going to make an all time greats list, in fact its really only something I can play every couple of months, but its quite enjoyable whenever I get around to it.
