REVIEW : Ledger - Ledger EP

When it was announced that Jen Ledger would be releasing her debut solo ep, it filled many with a sense of excitement, rivaled only by an insatiable curiosity as to what we could expect from it. Would it be hard rock, similar in nature to her band Skillet? Pop? Electronic? Rock? The answer is yes…yes, it is. The Ledger EP, which drops this Friday, is a fairly diverse offering that has a little something for everyone. A common thread throughout the EP, is a distorted synth type sound, though there’s keys and drums that compliment it in all the right places.… Continued →

Gravity Galore: A Brief History of Christian Songs Titled "Gravity"

“Fire” and “water” are arguably the most overused metaphors in contemporary Christian music. But there is another common nature-themed metaphor in Christian music you may not have noticed: gravity. I by no means consider my research to be exhaustive, but I found nearly two dozen songs from the past 25 years with “gravity” in the title. Researching Christian music prior to the 1990’s is a difficult task. While I have little doubt that this theme continues back into the 80’s and maybe even 70’s the earliest contemporary Christian song titled “Gravity” I’ve been able to find so far* is from 1995.… Continued →

Over the past 7 years, the band has undergone a number of changes, such as band member changes as well as a number of challenges in various areas of their personal lives.… Continued →

An IVM Opinion Column: Dawning of the Age of Modern Elitism

Dawning Of The Age of Modern Elitism (and it's many annoyances) Reading the cesspool of comments online whether it be Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram, or heck even old school “www” websites (remember those?), one is left with a dilemma….do I bite my tongue or join in with the crazy circus monkeys? Hopefully not the latter, am I right?......

MxPx Prove It To The World That Tomorrow Is Not Just Another Day and Take Their Punk Rawk Show Directly to the Fans

That’s right friends, the much loved and critically adored long running legends of a band – MxPx, are back and with a new album. They are here to prove that 26 years later it isn’t the end but rather a step in the next phase of this band’s legendary career. It’s hard to believe that seeing them in some sweaty Church basement here in Orange County, CA. back in 1995 with all of us (band included) being youths, that their music would endure through the years attracting new fans each step of the way.… Continued →

Switchfoot Return With Powerful, Artistic Take on Modern Metal

Switchfoot have gracefully returned from their years long slumber to reemerge as a metal band. Check out this first single titled “Project 11” which does sound eerily familiar but not sure quite how. This is the “heaviest” the band has ever sounded. Those of you that were secretly wishing for a Jeremy Camp metal project can settle for second best and get a sweet Switchfoot one instead. What goes better with the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ than Bunnies, Eggs, Peeps, and good ol’ heavy metal?… Continued →
