Today, Skillet announced the release of a new album, titled “Victorious”, releasing August 2nd on Atlantic Records. Coinciding with the announcement, the band also released a lyric video for it’s first single, “Legendary”, which you can view below. The band is also planning a Summer Tour with Sevendust that kicks off August 11th.
Collide > Comatose > Hey You, I Love Your Soul > Awake > Alien Youth > Skillet > Rise > Unleashed > Invincible…
Yes, Collide!! It baffles me how “Comatose” is the album which made them more popular…
Yeah, Collide all the way! Too heavy for the masses?
Can’t say it baffles me, Comatose was a good blend of artistry and accessibility, whereas I’d say Collide is raw and much more of the artistry and Awake is the accessibility side.
I’d also have to say that “Rebirthing” is pretty iconic. It was the first song I heard by them, and that song alone sold me on them completely.
+1 They’re both great albums!
I guess the accessibility side turns me off. I could only get into about half of Comatose, and maybe 1/3 of Awake. I know at this point Collide was a bit of an anomaly. It looks like, for the most part, Cooper is going to follow the muse of infusing whatever sound is currently popular into the Skillet template. But the comfort factor means I’ll probably keep coming back.
I’ll bite:
Collide=Hey You, I Love Your Soul>Alien Youth>Rise>Unleashed>Invincible>Skillet>Comatose>Awake
Nice. ‘Hey You, I Love Your Soul’ was the album that got me into Skillet, so I’ll always have a nostalgic connection to that one… but then I found ‘Invincible’ to be a huge disappointment and didn’t get back into the band until ‘Collide’ came out. I feel like they’ve been on a steady decline since then, and hope they can turn it around. Either way there’s always at least 1 or 2 gems to be found whenever Skillet release a new album, so I keep coming back.
Yeah, Invincible has this weird thin feeling, and not much stands out. I did enjoy Alien Youth, but forgot about them enough in the couple of years between that and Collide, to when I heard the latter, it blew my mind.
Man, it sounds almost exactly like “Feel Invincible” off their last album, but with more Imagine Dragons vibes. Honestly, it’ll likely be another album I’m not that musically fond of that I’ll probably still listen to a lot simply because for some reason, it’s really comforting, 23 years on, to listen to Skillet.
