With all these new reunions fresh in our minds and the rivers of nostalgia running deep, it was only time before the mighty Squad 5-0 came back and dropped a new album on us. According to the band’s official Instagram page (sorry I’m not aware of any Facebook pages that are current), they may be working on a new album and teased with like 1 second guitar clip. Beloved Southern California 90’s alt-rock band, The Prayer Chain, have just announced a new campaign to fund the vinyl pressing of their much loved debut full length “Shawl”. The band crossed all barriers and industry confines to write songs that conveyed emotions which the general “Christian” market just wasn’t prepared to deal with at the time. Their music transcends all labels and tags that may be associated with the band to truly be recognized as the powerhouse rock act that they were. 2017 was a pretty decent year for music! Between finding newer bands, the resurgence of others from years of inaction, and great albums from bands we’ve come to love and depend on for great music, it was pretty tough to be disappointed. Below, are the 20 albums that I consider to be the year’s best. If there are bands there you haven’t heard of, I hope you check them out, you never know…maybe one of them would’ve made your top spot. New Archabald Album Out in 2018 Albuquerque, NM. experimental rock group Archabald has been teasing followers with a combination of cryptic posts, humorous polls, and poetic quotes. All this considered, a new album is in the works. It hasn’t been revealed exactly how far the group is into the writing process, but you can expect more news as time goes on. “Is It Far // Or Is It Close” Due 1/1/18 Minneapolis-based indie act Author has announced their first new album in just about three years. “Is It Far // Or Is It Close” is due 1/1, but the band has set up pre-orders and has three tracks up for preview. “IIFOIIC” sees Author dabble with the ambient, post-rock leanings found on their debut, “Of Brighter Days”, this time incorporating some electronic elements as well. This former pop-punk band Hawk Nelson which in the past few years has morphed into some sort of worship centered pop-rock band, has just released a brand new song titled “He Still Does Miracles”. The men in Switchfoot have announced their hiatus in 2018. They’ve been a band for 20 years which is quite an accomplishment. The fact that these core guys could stick together this long and put out a consistent set of cherished songs for 2 decades is admirable.
