Song of the Day: Viva Voce - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

My favorite Christmas songs tend to be the traditional carols. Sure, I love a good cheesy secular holiday tune every now and then (“Let it Snow” anyone?), but I find the deep theology of the carols to be particularly meaningful, and therefore apropos for the season. Having said that, there are also some wonderful contemporary renderings of the traditional tunes. Viva Voce was an indie rock band, centered on wife-husband duo Anita and Kevin Robinson. Originally from Alabama, they transplanted to Portland, OR somewhere along their musical (and geographical) journey.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Poor Old Lu - All Pretty for the TV

Poor Old Lu are/were one of the most celebrated alternative rock bands in the Christian scene. They hit at the height of the Christian indie scene in the 1990s, and formed a core unit of alternative rock bands that included The Prayer Chain, Plankeye, Starflyer 59 and a handful of others. Hailing from the Seattle area, the band also had close ties with others in the scene like Pedro the Lion, Damien Jurado, Blenderhead, and even Sunny Day Real Estate (vocalist Jeremy Enigk provided guest vocals on one POL track).… Continued →

Song of the Day: Lugsole - Out of Place

Lugsole was a noisy indie rock band from Birmingham AL with hints of post-punk and emo in their sound. Despite a significant number of releases–both independent and label-issued–they remained a fairly obscure act, whose fans were either music critics or diehard independent music aficionados. Recorded output begins in 1995 and ends in 1998, and in those four short years, they managed to release three cassette demos (two EPs and one full-length), a split 7″ with Dear Ephesus, an EP on compact disc via Daddy-O Records (who also released the first Dear Ephesus recordings), and a 3-way split CD with mainstream acts The Paper Chase and E-Class.… Continued →

Slow Salvation Drop Debut Full Length

A new band we just started discussing, have released their surprise debut full length via Velvet Blue Music. The band is Slow Salvation and the album is called “Here We Lie”. This is truly something to get excited about and a band with that certain “newness” that doesn’t strike you as mediocre or off-putting. Give them a listen and pick up the album now from Velvet Blue in physical format here.… Continued →

The Myriad Rereleases Early EPs

Much loved and critically underrated indie rock band The Myriad, seems to have some new activity transpiring. The band last released the full length “With Arrows, With Poise” back in 2008 to much acclaim and fan adoration but the band’s time in the spotlight was cut short when their drummer Randy sadly passed away from cancer. The band decided to put a hold on the band and went into hibernation. Well, they are working on things and also put up 3 of their older “indie” EPs on digital networks.… Continued →

Zane Vickery Funding New Album - Check Out a Preview!

Zane Vickery’s latest EP came during a difficult period in my life where I personally found myself spiritually, physically, and emotionally exhausted. His words were thoughtful, provocative, and encouraging all the same – yet never denying the things we hold in tension as believers in a broken world. It was like the words of a comforting friend who was okay to share in my suffering but didn’t simply want me to stay there. Now, on the other side of literal life-changing car crash, Zane is working on a full-length album about grief, recovery, and faith.… Continued →

Slow Coming Day Premiere Brand New Song at IAMTUNEDUP That Will Absolutely RULE Your Weekend

Slow Coming Day is crushing it, I mean absolutely slamming it with this new song titled “Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace”. This is the band’s return to new recorded music as a group which is being said of almost 2 decades but I guess those special Indie Vision Music songs from a few years ago will remain unknown secret hits 😉 This song just like all their other music, hits in all the right places and soars like so many other songs fail to do.… Continued →

REVIEW : Sally Grayson - The Darkness in Me

While I was first introduced to Sally Grayson formally in 2020, during the covid-quarantine era, it turns out that I had already heard versions of her music many years prior. She’d fronted Black Swift (based in Germany where Grayson transplanted) for a number of years, but long before that she was in Michigan-based (her native homeland) Standbye, an emo/indie rock band by whom I owned a CD. All that to say that while Sally’s name may not be familiar to the masses, she’s been making credible musical art for well over two decades now.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Destroy Nate Allen - B**bie Bar

Destroy Nate Allen is a fun, energetic band that mixes the simplicity and energy of punk rock with the acoustic sounds of folk, making for an interesting take on folk-punk. Quirky but sincere lyrics and vocal styles combine with straight-forward messages–usually on subjects other artists don’t want to touch–make for both a challenging and entertaining listen. Take “Boobie Bar” for instance. On the one hand it’s a crude song whose title I had to censor, just so it doesn’t get picked up by filters. On the other hand, the intent behind the song is just about as pure as it gets: Don’t go down to the boobie bar If you want a real relationship, you won’t get far Don’t go to that boogie bar The song comes from their 2012 album, With Our Powers Combined.… Continued →

The Julies Release Brand New Song Titled "Symmetry"

The Julies are back in a big way this year. They’ve had a couple prior (old) albums repackaged and released on Vinyl for the first time by Lost In Ohio and now they come back with a brand new song titled “Symmetry” which is quite frankly the best I’ve ever heard from them or any likeminded band for that matter. I hate using all the genre specific classifications when describing songs such as this because honestly, this band goes above and beyond to bring you music which rides a wave of uniquely, “Julies” music but terms like “shoegaze”, “indie pop rock”, “Dream pop”, etc could easily be applied to this then twisted around and around with the beautiful color hues projecting outwards.… Continued →
