The Unblack metal project, Ascending King has began to finish their debut EP. The band has a sound like Atmospheric Black metal with Zao/Carcass Vocals. The project began in 2015-2016ish and has released a single titled “Genesis of Desolation”. Hands - The Sounds of Earth (Playlist)

The band Hands first formed back in 2007, releasing a couple of “Demos” of which I was a strong supporter of. Their songs even appeared on a few of our early digital compilations. I followed Shane and his band’s work closely over the years following their formation from their first independent release, “The Everlasting Ep” (2008), to the incredible full length debut “The Sounds of Earth” (Oort Records/2009) to “Creator” (Facedown Records), “Give Me Rest” (Facedown Records” and finally after a much deserved break, their comeback single “New Heaven / New Earth” (2017/Facedown Records).… Continued →

He has an instrumental called “Anno Domini” that is great. SOH released a song titled “Stratagem” that is primarily power metal styled up until the vocals come in. Pure death metal gutturals. It’s like Lightforce (pre-Mortification) and Mortification put together. The song is incredible. Go check it out here! Continued →

Throwback Review 1: Curtains - Good Luck Varsity

Every once in awhile, an album falls through the cracks; IVM’s hiatus, bands breaking up, or even just the simple discovery of “old gold” years later results in plenty of great music that hasn’t gotten much coverage but certainly deserves to be revisited. So, this is the first of what I hope will become a growing list of throwback reviews. Feel free to send me some ideas and I’ll do my best to make sure they’re covered. For a variety of reasons, I’ve chosen to not make these traditional reviews with ratings but instead want to highlight the artist and encourage readers to check out bands.… Continued →

The band began in 2006 as a project of Thor Georg Buer, a former member of Antestor. The band has been slow going for the last few years, but it seems they have finally begun the recording of their sophomore album, hopefully to be out by this year. Since Antestor seems to be on an unofficial hiatus, the Vocalist of both bands, Ronny Hansen, has had more time for GD.… Continued →

Long time experimental and avant garde metal artists Kekal have launched upon us “Root of All Evil” as a free download. With a hefty 6:27 track time, this is showing us promise that their next album in 2018 will continue to blow us away with more innovation and creativity we’ve come to expect from this unique outfit. The album is entitled “Deeper Underground” and I personally can’t wait to hear more. Listen below and share your comments.… Continued →

A Sprinkle of This, a Sprinkle of That

Not a year goes by where we are not amazed at art the Sprinkle brothers put out. This year will be no exception as Aaron Sprinkle releases his new album on Tooth & Nail Records. Entitled “Real Life”, it endeavors to be a heartfelt bid to the past while looking forward to the future by calling out to the hopes and dreams in all of us.
