REVIEW : Not Beneath - Memento Mori
Not Beneath is an exciting new project featuring ex-members of Narcissus, Outcry, North Meadow Park, and Vessel. In 2018 those names might not mean very much but if you were into hardcore/metalcore in the late 90s or early 00s, you’ll recognize them for sure. Memento Mori ventures into new territory though, pushing for a death metal vibe with progressive leanings at times, and occasionally some touches of –core. Having said all that, it’s a very rewarding listen. It caught my ear upon first listen, and almost immediately I wanted to listen again—lots of layers of sound, melodic and harmonic textures, and heavy as crap!… Continued →

So far, what new song is your favorite – “Rolling Strong” or “Let’s Ride”?… Continued →

Silent Planet - Northern Fires (Guernica)
Silent Planet will release their new album “When The End Began” soon and in celebration (excuse the lateness of this post) they have released a new song titled “Northern Fires (Guernica)” In regard to the lateness of this post, I just plain forgot to post about it in all the craziness of the past few months. In the meantime the band has been working on new music and another new song will be posted by tomorrow? So if you happen to see two new posts about Silent Planet on IVM in the next day or so, that is why.… Continued →

Forum Blue - A Precious Place
Beautiful songs are one in a million and not so easy to come by regardless of what websites/radio/media throw in your face. Simple songs like this one can be just as powerful as next year’s big chart topping artist. Forum Blue is the new project of Ray Torres of Ray Torres & The Mercy (an artist I wrote about quite a bit over 5 years ago). This song is titled “A Precious Place” and is an honest love letter to his Father who has long since passed.… Continued →
Sef Idle - At Arm's Length (Hangnail Cover)
I really have to draw attention to one of the most excellent acoustic pop-punk “cover” tracks done in recent memory. Sef Idle has been playing for years fronting and playing guitar for bands like uniSEF and False Idle but has recently come forward as a skilled acoustic-punk singer/songwriter. Sef Idle just released “Someday, Today” back in May and it is a fitting reminder of how raw, natural talent can captivate the listener. It’s not that often that you hear a Christian singer/songwriter in this genre be so overwhelmingly effective with honesty and conviction, letting the music do the talking through words and song.… Continued →

REVIEW : The Protest - Legacy
The world is full of grit, seriousness, and dark themes within media. Whenever something “fun” comes around, it’s a nice change of pace. The Protest’s debut album on Rockfest records, Legacy, provides a Christ-centered, lighthearted yet heavy hitting album that’s perfect for some summertime head-banging.
The southern rock intro and uplifting chorus of the opening track “Valor” kicks off the album in full force and doesn’t let up until the album ends. The lyrics of the chorus are focused on persevering through hard times through Christ, “All the oppression we will take it, take it in stride.”… Continued →

REVIEW : Kevin Schlereth - Catechism
Kevin Schlereth's newest EP is an intimate mix of Scripture-based acoustic songs.
James Gardin - Groove
“Groovy” might be 60s slang, but James Gardin offers a fresh dose of it with his new song “Groove.” Produced by Terem, the track boasts psychedelic synths and a tight beat to back Gardin’s smooth vocals. The song is available on all digital retailers.

Introducing: Benjamin Daniel
Benjamin Daniel is a new artist i’d like to introduce you all to. His music beautiful new song “Shaping Season” and purely magnificent in every mention of the word, is now streaming below. Benjamin is currently working on new recordings and this is one of his first to feature. This 5 minute and 30 sec epic song takes the listener on a journey through unshakable emotion, piercing sadness, unmistakable hope, and the redemption that shines through it all. I’m a tough one to be swayed by new solo independent music but there is something truly amazing about this debut track and something awe inspiring.… Continued →
Indie Worship Group Rivers & Robots Tease New Music
The indie-electronic stylings of UK worship act Rivers & Robots have resurfaced. Along with a new logo, the band has posted a clip of something that will be out 7/6. This is certainly not a CCM act by any stretch, and Rivers & Robots have a great history of melding experimental indie and powerful synths for a worship experience that is entrenched in intentionality.
