Deepspace5 - FROWN

After a long period of silence, Deepspace5 return with “FROWN,” taken from their forthcoming project entitled 5:55. The crew’s last album, The Future Ain’t What It Used To Be, was released in 2010 and they are celebrating 20 years as a group. 5:55 will be releasing this Friday on bandcamp, but in the mean time, you can check out the music video for “FROWN” below. REVIEW : The Ongoing Concept - Places

“Originality, I give up” screams Dawson Scholz on “The Print.” After two years since their last album, all band members leaving except for him, The Ongoing Concept returns with new members (Andy Crateau – guitar, vocals; Cody Rhodes – drums; Ian Nelson – bass) and their third full-length. I have an unpopular opinion to confess: I didn’t like Handmade all that much. Sure, it was beyond impressive that the band made their own instruments, and songs like “Amends” and “Unwanted” are very catchy, but I don’t find myself returning to the majority of songs. … Continued →

Nomis - AGAPE

Oceanside artist and activist, Nomis, has released a handful of singles over the past few months. The latest of these is “AGAPE,” a chill hip-hop track with a groovy live bass line. The song focuses on the virtue of compassion, especially when understanding for the other’s situation is fragmented. You can stream and purchase “AGAPE” on bandcamp. Continued →

Though the article was first published in late February of 2016, Rapzilla linked to it yesterday on Facebook, asking followers the same question. The response from both staff and followers has been pretty diverse and fun to read, and so, I thought it would be apt to continue the conversation here. Ruslan Responds to Shai Linne

Last Friday, Shai Linne released his new album Still Jesus, which kicks off with the track “Random Thoughts 3.” The song addresses, in part, some of Shai’s concerns with Christian hip-hop, especially from the Reach Records collective. Ruslan, formerly of theBREAX and Dream Junkies, has made a response song entitled “Random Thoughts 4 (Shai Linne).” You can stream both of the songs below. REVIEW : Propaganda - Crooked

Let me start off by admitting that I wasn’t exactly looking forward to this album. Now, that’s not to say I didn’t think I’d like it at all, because that’s certainly not the case. First of all, I’d describe myself as someone who enjoys the occasional Propaganda song, but like so many other artists, I simply have difficulty enjoying an entire album. Secondly, I was getting the impression through the song titles and reviews that Crooked was going to be political in its lyrics. As someone who only has a minor interest in politics, and some general disdain for the discussions and attitudes that seem to directly stem from political topics/activities, I was worried that some of the lyrics here might add to my frustration.… Continued →

REVIEW : K I D S - Side A

One of Flicker Records’ most beloved alumni bands have decided to not only get out of the way, but moreover, they have risen from the ashes like a phoenix (with a heartache) after nearly ten years since their last album was released. Never quite having one particular sound but always succeeding in the style they adopted, this band has done emo, punk, post-hardcore, and straight on rock n’ roll. Kids in the Way have become K I D S and Side A shows the band both evolving and maintaining some of their roots.… Continued →

Heath McNease x Keyes - Rapper

Heath McNease has released a video for his new song “Rapper” featuring Keyes (otherwise known as Heir Jordan). The press release reads: “In the lead up to his new EP featuring Propaganda, J Givens, Derek Minor and more, Heath McNease partnered with Keyes (aka Heir Jordan) to drop a loosie that takes a satirical look at what it is to be a rapper Over a gritty beat from producer Wonderlust, both rappers dole out stern warnings about the dangers of getting to know an emcee. The video was shot and directed by Heath, Jordan and Chris Pochiba.”… Continued →
