It was just announced that 2 legends from the long running alt-rock band known as Sixpence None The Richer will now join the long running and highly influential band – 10,000 Maniacs! That’s right, Leigh Nash who fronted Sixpence and has gone to make great solo music under her name will join 10,000 Maniacs as their new touring vocalist and Matt Slocum who was also a legendary songwriter and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist for Sixpence will join the band as touring guitarist. MxPx will return on August 25th with their brand new studio album, their first since “Self Titled” released in 2018. For this special Saturday in July I thought I’d share another really great project with you this time from a group called “Generation Gone“. They are a melodic hardcore punk band out of Southern California featuring a heavy, hard hitting sound that is melodic at times and furious all the time. The music is loud but the production is above all the rest (makes sense since the famous producer Paul Miner has his hands on producing these tunes). This low key, somber indie rock dream sequence of a song titled “The Ballad of 54” by the band The Lost Chorus just dropped on digital networks and it’s an absolute winner. It’s unlike most stuff out there. The cool thing is that this supergroup of sorts features collaborations between Andy Zipf and members of Stavesacre and Project 86. It almost takes on this movie soundtrack vibe with haunting vocals and melodies that have this dark feel of sorts. It’s good stuff and definitely worthy of listen after listen.… Continued →

I am going to take a moment and introduce you all to this incredible new pop-punk act known as Static Ultra. They absolutely kill it and their bright & poppy sound is full of heartwarming melodies and engaging sing-a-longs inspired by all those early to late 00’s emo/poppunk jams yet forging forward with a sound all their own. If you want a classic, nostalgic flow with energetic vocals and hard hitting guitar/bass/drums, then Static Ultra is for you. A really great ska-punk-pop band called Send Out Scuds existed over a decade ago, released an ep on Blood & Ink Records then just disappeared off into the sunset. Well some former members are back with a new group called “OHK-0” which promises to take some of that same fun and energetic songmaking into this new project with some more keys/synths and a whole new direction. Anberlin have just released their brand new 5 song EP titled “Convinced” and it’s available worldwide today. Thoughts on this new outing from scene faves, Anberlin? I kinda wished they named this EP “Conversate” because it would remind me of my favorite Anberlin album, “Cities”, and just sounds fun. The last ep and this one together make a really diverse set of songs with a sound much more mature and modern in nature. Do I like it personally? The Julies are back in a big way this year. They’ve had a couple prior (old) albums repackaged and released on Vinyl for the first time by Lost In Ohio and now they come back with a brand new song titled “Symmetry” which is quite frankly the best I’ve ever heard from them or any likeminded band for that matter. I hate using all the genre specific classifications when describing songs such as this because honestly, this band goes above and beyond to bring you music which rides a wave of uniquely, “Julies” music but terms like “shoegaze”, “indie pop rock”, “Dream pop”, etc could easily be applied to this then twisted around and around with the beautiful color hues projecting outwards.… Continued →

Light The Way just dropped their brand new song titled “Life Makes No Sense” and it is now available on ALL digital networks and streaming sites. It is a fantastic new song and one of the band’s strongest efforts so far. It’s meaningful, it’s a bit depressing, it’s entirely honest, and it’s a song full of vulnerability and hope. Those classic Spirit Filled Hardcore OGs known as FOCUSED, are reuniting FINALLY for a show (or shows) this fall or in 2024 (heck, do both!).
