Scott Blackwell was a well-connected producer and DJ who brought house music to CCM, and played a huge role in the advent of Christian-themed electronic dance music. He founded N*Soul Records and later Myx Records, both of which saw releases in subgenres like house, techno, rave, breaks, and more. Besides his important roles in the Christian music industry, he’s also worked with mainstream artists as diverse as Joe Diffie (country), Debbie Gibson (pop/top 40), Book of Love (synth-pop), The Gap Band (funk). Blackwell has more than 150 credits to his name in production, remixes, songwriting, and so forth.
His first solo album Walk on the Wild Side released in 1992 and took the CCM world by storm. Tracks from the album took CHR (Christian Hits Radio) by storm and were nearly ubiquitous on Christian college campuses in early 90s. He released two more full-length albums: 1993’s Once Upon a Time and 1994’s The Real Thing.
Blackwell’s work was unusual in the CCM world, where the emphasis had normally been on lead vocalists. Blackwall was primarily a producer/DJ, so he collaborated with a number of musicians, singers, and rappers across the three albums that bear his name. “Day by Day” features lyrics and vocals by from frequent collaborators Sandra Stephens and Allegra Parks, as well as multi-instrumentalist and writer David Darlington (who himself has over 2,000 credits to his name from the secular pop/rock/hip-hop world).
