Nate Parrish has gone above and beyond in bringing what I consider to be his absolute finest song by far in the history of Nate Parrish. There’s so much to love about it from the crunchy guitar strumming, snotty punk vocals from the Natester himself, some subtle electronic touches, and the those bold, honest lyrics which really speak truth about the reality of living in this broken world. There’s pain we endure, the love and loss, and depression and disillusionment, the questions left unanswered coupled with the hope we find in biblical truth and what we’re all searching for, is nothing short of mesmerizing. I’m enthralled with this song and I find great joy in bobbing my head along to the punk rhythms. I sometimes close my eyes while listening to great independent music like this and imagine these artists getting their big break whether it be on radio/satellite, a tv feature, a front page mention on digital networks, a Super Bowl half time Show, a main stage spot at a festival like Riot Fest, Warped Tour, Slam Dunk, Download Festival, or even Furnace Fest, but when I awaken and see the song still playing without the reality sinking in, I just smile and put back on the headphones to keep dreaming for another day. When we find that special artist(s) that bring a smile and make you feel something deep inside, you know a particular artist is connecting with you through their art. That’s really the point right? Doesn’t matter how big or small a band or artist is, if it connects on a deeper, even spiritual level and makes you feel, makes you think, maybe even dream a little, then we all can share in that special bond thus leading to dreams that really do come true. Celebrate Nate’s new song today and give it a listen. You can stream it via YouTube, below.
THAT’S JUST LIFE
V1
I wrote down a few rhymes just to try to find reason in this life
If you don’t mind I’d like to sing a few lines so I can sleep tonight
I’ve never been one to bite my tongue
I’ve never liked the taste of my own blood
V2
A young man sits in a cell for selling his drugs on the street
While another man lives in a mansion for selling his drugs on tv
They say that justice is blind
But she seems to see dollar signs just fine
I guess thats just life
CHORUS
Frustration filling up my mind
Temptation taking up my time
We’re dying just to stay alive
But that’s just life
V3
Back to the rant there’s a pack of wolves running through our holy house
But you’re more concerned with my choice words than the sheep in their
mouths
It’s political prostitution, to protect your institution, you monetizing the
messiah
Red white and blue preach to the choir
BRIDGE
Another day, another injustice
More questions with answers I can’t come up with
Another day of asking where our prayers go
Am I naive to even have hope?
Did you even happen to open the envelope?
I know every ask has a reply, I just hate how sometimes it’s no, or next time
