Well, I attended the Thrice show last night at House of Blues in Anaheim, CA. (Downtown Disney) and it was quite a show. I got there kinda late and we were hungry so we ate in the restraunt portion of the venue while Aushua and Pelican were playing. I didn’t hear either band so I apologize if I can’t comment on them. Artist: Olivia the Band Album: Where Come From It Never Snows Label: Up At Nite/Syntax Records Crap, am I impressed or what? I know that’s a real zinger of a line to throw out in the first sentence but wow, oh wow, is this good! Every song is a radio single and eager for your listen. Every beat is addictive and every strum of the guitar is like heaven. This album transcends all genres and rises above the melodic punk rock background they rise from. Band: Mxpx Album: “Secret Weapon” Label: Tooth & Nail Records Release Date: 7-17-07 Reviewing any Mxpx record is always a difficult task for me. You see they’ve become an American staple, a band of longetivity and band I’ve been listening to since High School. Each album that releases and passes is a favorite of mine (well minus Before and Everything After which was a critical letdown) and an album that withstands the abuse my cd player inflicts upon it. An Interview with Jeff Jacquay of Unashamed A classic trip in time through the years of Spirit Filled Hardcore and beyond… I first caught glimpse of Unashamed in 95’ at a show with Focused in Capo Beach, CA. and was blown away by the intensity of the band. Their brand of “Spirit Filled Hardcore” blew everyone in the room away with passion of heart and explosive guitars enough to jolt the building to the floor (exaggerated). Neutral Agreement is a band thats been impressing crowds all over the place. Their new split ep titled MATH hits the streets soon. One of the highlights of Cornerstone 2006 was getting to see a whole gang of my old hometown friends, specifically the boys(and girl) in Lincoln’s Revenge, a new prog influenced orchestrated rock band, hailing from my old hometown of Guelph, Ontario(that is Canada folks). So I managed to catch up with them when they weren’t playing their own generator stage or showcasing on the Impromptu stage for a mob of crazed fans overjoyed to see some brass in the midst of the traditional metal mayhem. So half way into Cornerstone Music Festival 2006 I was completely exhausted, sick of screaming music, and ready to pass out from sun exposure. I was spending some bonding time with some random people I had met just outside of one of the two Encore stages when Why They Came started their set. I wasn’t paying complete attention but I kept asking around trying to figure out who these people were, and mostly why their crowd consisted of 5-10 people. I recently had the opportunity to catch one of the select canadian dates of the headlining Rocket Summer Tour featuring: recently signed to Floodgate, Transition(Website,Myspace,Purevolume), indie rock band Daphne Loves Derby(Website,MySpace,Purevolume), and indie veteran Brandtson(Website,MySpace,Purevolume. Album: WatsonPark Artist: WatsonPark Label: Unsigned I have to say it: I have a soft spot for some good folk-pop. I really do. I’m a pretty massive fan of the “nu-folk” movement which was revived in the late 90s and has carried over to today. Whiskeytown, early Wilco, Norah Jones, Damien Rice…I’m a sucker for all of them. The “singer/songwriter” set. Good stuff. It’s a little hard to peg down sometimes.
