Song of the Day: The CT Four Plus - Exodus II

By in News, Song of The Day | No Comments

Okay, forgive me, but we’re doing two obscure instrumental songs in a row for Friday’s Song of the Day feature. Last week it was Dutch experimental noise artist Dolenaer. This week we have German psych rock band The CT Four Plus. I know very little about the band, other than the fact they were German and active in the 1970s.

The band released four different singles (for a total of seven songs), all on the MFB Produktion label, a Christian label based in Germany that was active from the 60s through at least the 1980s. We also know that at some point the band shortened their name to simply CTA, and began integrating folk rock influences into their psychedelic styles.

I first encountered the band via a 2016 compilation called, Music With A Message – Celestial Explorations Into German Church Rock via Tramp Records, a German label that specializes in reissues of rare jazz, funk, and soul releases. I think I came across the release on Spotify, in a playlist of rare Jesus Music called “Archivesque” (if you like old and weird Jesus Music, check out the playlist here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6pKHKnDvE71xwON21RM9pJ?si=9619a5e6e7fd4e0e.

While all of the band’s material is merit-worthy, it was the instrumental “Exodus II” that really caught my ear. The guitar noise generated from this church-adjacent band in the 1970s just floors me! I hope you enjoy it.
