Today’s band hearkens back to what many consider the fun days of what got them into metalcore. Collective Dust is a crabcore revival band which references the metalcore subgenre known for incorporating electronic elements and “crab-like” chugging guitar riffs, often with syncopated rhythms. This is a ministry band rooted in Christian beliefs as seen in their mission statement.
“The band’s mission first and foremost is to be servants of Jesus Christ and stewards of the gospel, reaching and ministering to as many as will listen,” Wilson says eagerly.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Steve Camp - Fire and Ice
This writer has been listening to Christian music since the early 80s. Steve Camp has been a part of this almost 50 year experience with great songs like Run to the Battle, Guard the Trust, etc…
One fact I find very interesting is that just like Martin Luther wrote the Ninety-five Theses, Steve wrote his own 107 theses on Reformation Day (October 31), 1998, calling for a reformation in contemporary Christian music: calling Christian musicians to make direct, uncompromising music that confronts the world with the message of the scriptures.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Avery PKWY - When You Left the 99
Joel Piper is the brainchild behind Avery PKWY & has been around for a few years now. His latest released just dropped last month & has 19 songs. If you haven’t heard of him, you might know his old band Confide that had a little mainstream success on the Warper Tour. Check out these lyrics & his latest release Walk With You.
I’m done escaping all the pain of the labor
It’s time to face what I have labeled as danger
Now I’m done
Believing all the liеs of the traitor (Ooh-ooh-ooh)
Now I know I was made for something so much grеater
Than only to survive
I’m coming back to life
I was breathing, but dead inside
I know that I am the one
The one You were chasing when You left the 99

Song of the Day: War Rocket Ajax - She Walks The Line
This fun band hailed from Texas & released southwestern punk rock. Like a lot of the Bettie Rocket Records family, it is hard to track down down much on the band’s history. They do actually have a Facebook page though. If you haven’t already, seriously check this band out.
And be sure to check out my website www.castingsuchathinshadow.com and my Ripper Radio show that airs on Sundays 5-6 pm EST.

Metalcore Florida band Second Thief released a few EPs from 2005-2012. Their vocalist sounds similar to The Agony Scene’s. This SOTD comes from their 2010 release Brainwashed.

Song of the Day: Rock Solid - Searchin'
This rarity band appears to have come from Ohio. I have not found much on them, but on the Christian Tape Underground site. This SOTD comes from a HM Magazine compilation. I know they also have a song called I Cried. Their music is of the hard rock genre & have been compared to Saint & Messiah Prophet.
And this post is dedicated to my stepdaughter Alissa who is having a birthday today!

Song of the Day: Rusty Shipp - Automoto vs Epic Bard - Surfride Strut
I have always loved the sounds of surf music. The Beach Boys were a staple on the oldies station that my dad listened to when we were on the road. I remember Dakoda Motor Company coming out & that 1st & 2nd LP blew me away. These 2 SOTD bands have released these 2 songs very recently which I thought was cool.
Other bands that have dabbled in the genre are 1998’s The Surfers, my friend’s band Bub Walker & the Tombstones, and Switchfoot.

Song of the Day: The Kreepdowns: Spiritual Beast vs The Saints
Crazy, but this SOTD was literally in my queue for y’all without knowing that Loyd had posted recently on Acoustic Shack! Anyways, I uploaded the album to Youtube as for some reason wasn’t up. Great album with the highlights being Spiritual Beast, Go Now, Cello, Select & Not Like That. The Saints comes from a Bettie Rocket comp. To me they sounded like a more modern grunge than Nirvana akin to Smashing Pumpkins.

Vengeance Rising vocalist Roger Martinez has passed away
Roger was the vocalist of one of the big 4 of thrash metal in the Christian industry which also included Deliverance, Tourniquet & Believer. Vengeance released 4 albums & this writer unfortunately didn’t hear about them until their last Released Upon the Earth. Pastor Bob Beeman’s hand is on the cover of their S/T debut. If you ever get to meet Pastor Bob, make sure you talk to him. He is a real man of God. Afterwards, Vengeance disbanded & formed several other bands including Die Happy & Once Dead.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Emerson Day - Get Behind Me
Here is a catchy southern rock song that is currently running through Christian radio. Emerson had her first stint on Christian radio when she sung on Micah Tyler’s People Like Me. Her background is a lacrosse player and a degree in Homeland Security per the New Release Today bio on her. She reminds me of a singer whom I worked her mech booth a year ago now called Anne Wilson.

Song of the Day: Darkness Divided - The Hands That Bled (Acoustic) vs Souls of the Lost
This Texan band takes their name from Genesis 1:4 I found about them from RadioU in Ohio with their song Remnants. Since then, I have followed them & they just released their latest single King of the the Undertow recently. Starting in church worship, they changed styles in 2010. I personally am not a fan of acoustic covers, but I love this one. Also, included a fave of mine from them.

Song of the Day: Ritual Servant - Comfort In the Fire
Releasing their first EP in 2017, this Carolina thrash band has done the genre very well imho. Some may recognize guitarist Ryan Roebuck’s name from other projects he has worked on such as Motivik & Vultures Gathering. Vocalist/guitarist Patrick Best has also worked with another band I personally like a lot called Collision of Innocence. Anyways, check this band out if you haven’t already.

Song of the Day: LastPageFirst - Song For You
Pulling from the archives with this rare pop punk band, they were from Rochester, New York. Their LastFM bio is hilarious. This is from the last paragraph: “LastPageFirst is definitely a band to watch in 2005. With their passion for touring, their amazing hooks and melodies, and an album and live show that is nothing short of stellar, LPF will soon have arenas full of young girls chanting their name.”
Jeremy Call, their vocalist/guitarist also says this “Our goal is to build relationships with people. I want to show people that I’m just like them.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Benjamin - Don't Tell Him You Love Him
Benjamin is the only son of Christian music legends Bill & Gloria Gaither. I have always liked this song & The Narrow Road. Rain Down a Fire was big on CCM radio also. I love the lyrics to the chorus of this song.
Don’t tell Him you love Him, Don’t tell Him you need Him til you’re ready to fall down on your knees & ready to serve Him. Don’t tell Him you’re sorry, Don’t tell Him what you’re never going to do until you let Him stand & follow through.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Rusty Shipp - Neck Breaker
Yah! Russ T Ship is back at it again with his nautical modern rock/grunge band. The first single is from their upcoming album, ‘Cosmic Innuendo, Vol. II.’ Here is what he says about the lyrics:
“This song is a segment taken from the concept album’s larger fiction story of an evil band of pirates who sets sail on a sinister mission, dismissing the prophetic warnings of an old sailor on the pier who warns of a worse fate for them than the gallows if they keep their course.… Continued →

Song of the Day: City of Refuge - FFM
Have you ever wanted to hear more music like Burlap to Cashmere? City of Refuge created music that sounded like a cross between Jars of Clay & Burlap. They started in a college dorm room & created a worship song called Amaze Me & went from there. Appears they did a few more singles & another full length called Clear in 2006 that I did not even know about. Anyways, the band still has a Youtube channel & a Soundclick page if you want to know more about them.… Continued →

The band will release their long awaited “At Death’s Gate” on October 31, 2024. While checking out this new track, recollect this 2000 Viking metal worship song.

Song of the Day: Vardoger - Call Your Name
“Unblack” metal can be hard to classify. Many do not like the term, but Vardoger could fall under that style of music. The band has gone over numerous personnel changes since its start in 1994. Check out the song lyrics which elude to the struggle of pressing on for the prize that Philippians 3:14 talks about.
And by the way, let us remember those affected by the 9/11 attacks. Let’s pray for the Holy Spirit to work on all of our hearts that we may call on Jesus when we struggle with the various sins that can take their toll on our relationship with YHWH.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Kingdom Cowboy - He's Enough
Yep, this SOTD is a country gospel song on a punk/metal website. But, the message in this song is exactly what we need to hear. God is there always including when we sin & mess up. He is quick to forgive & is always wanting us to come back to Him. Listen to the song lyrics as they are straight to the point. Also here is a great Bible verse.
