Song of the Day: Tourniquet - Tears of Korah

Many fitting tributes have been written about the one and only, the mighty drummer/musician/song-writer/animal rights activist Ted Kirkpatrick. So much has been said about his life, his music, and his impact that I can’t really add much here. Ted’s incredible musicianship is impossible to overstate. He was revered even by the most ardent anti-religion folks, for his musicality alone, including folks like King Diamond and Marty Friedman. While I never got to meet Ted, I did have the chance to see Tourniquet live once. It was their first tour with Luke Easter as the new lead vocalist.… Continued →

The Passing of Ted Kirkpatrick (Tourniquet) 1960-2022

It is with a heavy heart and coming seemingly from a never ending stream of bad news of late, that we report the passing of Ted Kirkpatrick who has become the face and man behind the legendary metal band – Tourniquet. Ted Kirkpatrick was a founding member of the long running band, drummer, songwriter, animal rights supporter, thinker, seeker, and a man of God. Ted passed from IPF, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis which is a rare and terminal lung disease. While it is certainly tragic especially amongst news of several other recent Christian musician deaths, we know that Ted has gone home to be with the Lord where he is jamming with Michael Bloodgood, Keith Green, Rich Mullins, Gene Eugene, Larry Norman, Kaleb Luebchow, and so many others gone too soon.… Continued →

Glenn Rogers returns to Deliverance

Deliverance is one of the biggest and oldest metal bands of this scene. With a new album on the way, of course the band would be doing an interview. Doug Van Pelt has revived Heaven’s Metal Magazine and recently interviewed Jimmy Brown II of the band. They spoke about the new upcoming album, why they came back, and his project with other ex-Deliverance members titled Eraserhead. During the interview, Doug asked Jimmy about a rumor of Glenn Rogers (Vengeance Rising, Once Dead, Hirax) returning to the band.… Continued →

The beloved thrash metal band, Tourniquet has been working on a new album for the last year or so, with only the lineup of founder Ted Kirkpatrick (drums) and longtime member Aaron Guerra (guitars). REVIEW : Final Surrender - Nothing But Void

How common is metal in Asia? Does anyone know? The genre of metal is a rare one to say the least, especially over in Asia. Final Surrender is one of the pioneers of the genre there. The Progressive metalcore act has been working hard on this album. Their debut album, Empty Graves, was released 4 years ago. The album begins with the single “Nothing But Void”. The track brings elements of techno music, Progressive metalcore, and thrash metal. There is plenty of work going on with the drums and percussion.… Continued →

5 Christian Metal Bands You May Not Have Heard Of (80's/90's Version)

Today, I am posting a list of Christian Metal bands from the old days that aren’t mentioned very often when talking about Christian metal. Most of them tend to be Nu-metal, ironically, even though the 90’s was the time for Nu-Metal/Rapcore. 5. Oficina G3 Oficina G3 is a Christian prog metal act from the late 80’s. Forming in 1987, the band began as a heavy metal/hard rock band, influenced by Stryper and Petra, but progressed into a Progressive metal/nu-metal/metalcore-ish band. This band was most likely thrown out, due to this period, when the Christian thrash scene had just hit it’s stride, with the Big 4 of the Christian scene: Deliverance, Vengeance Rising, Tourniquet and Believer.… Continued →

Dave Gryder, ex-Heaven's Force, Interviewed

Recently, Dave Gryder of the band Heaven’s Force was interviewed. Heaven’s Force is thought to be the first Christian thrash metal band. Though not as popular as bands like Vengeance Rising or Tourniquet or even Detritus or Ultimatum, Heaven’s Force pioneered the genre, unknown to most of the world from the year they started, 1983, up until 2009, when the band re-released their demos in the form of a compilation. The full interview can be read here.… Continued →
