Introducing: This Surrender

I stumbled across this band the other day and had to give their latest EP a listen. This Surrender are described as an Easycore band out of Brooklyn, NY. but I would add in worshipful lyrics and a message of hope built on love. As their bio says, they are inspired by the likes of Killswitch Engage, For Today, alongside Four Year Strong and A Day To Remember. Imagine that mashup and you get kind of the idea of just what music you’ll discover upon listening.… Continued →

Makeshift3 Added To Morbius Soundtrack

In a last minute attempt to boost sales numbers of tickets for Morbius this weekend, the band Makeshift3 were added to the soundtrack for the new film. They are unlisted and not credited but their music can certainly be felt in this anti-hero film starring the great Jared Leto. A rep for Sony/Marvel had this to say about the last minute addition to Morbius: “We were looking for the perfect music to add in at the end of the post-credits scenes. Right after the final scene shows, the screen turns dark then right before the workers begin picking up cold, stale, butter stained popcorn and cleaning that vomit puddle, the lights come on.Continued →

UnoriginalVinyl & Tooth & Nail Records Join Forces to Press "Fluorescent Black" On Vinyl For the First Time

In what seems like one of the most unlikeliest of all scenarios, well, it has somehow magically come to fruition. Unless I was caught up in some sort of unforeseen nightmare or tripped out from not having enough carbs on this KETO diet, or a lithium overdose, the very first pressing of “Fluorescent Black” by the darlings of punk-metal – Makeshift3, is a go. The beautifully handcrafted, time tested elements of this package will include the original album all freshly remixed by Tom Lord-Alge and mastered by Bob Ludwig.… Continued →

Members of Homeplate and Makeshift3 Form New Ultraband - Makeaplate365

There are moments in history that change things forever. Lincoln and the Gettysburg Address. Armstrong and the moon. Peter Griffin and the Chicken. The latest to be added to this list is the brand new ultraband comprised of members from 2 of the hottest up and coming punk bands – Homeplate and Makeshift3. When asked about the band, called Makeaplate365, Cody Thompson, drummer of now defunct “Homeplate” had this to say “It is a pyramid scheme. I’m really worried for my friend. Now excuse me while I hit this BBQ sauce.”Continued →

The Blamed Re-Record "Separation" for 2022 and It is HUGE!

The Blamed just re-recorded their 1994 classic song – “Separation” off the album “21” and have posted it on soundcloud for your listening pleasure. Personally, I think this song blows away past material. It’s so well done yet classic at the same time. If 1994 was 2022, this is what “Separation” would most definitely sound like. Kudos to Bryan, Jim, and the rest of the gang for paying tribute to your roots while at the same time embracing the future. I can’t wait to hear what comes next!… Continued →

Song of the Day: The Warning - Condemned to Hell

If you’ve been around the Christian punk/metal/hardcore/indie scene for any amount of time, you will likely have heard the name Burrito. Not his real name, of course–the man David Villalpando was a legend in the underground scene. Sadly, the man that many called a friend passed away this week from covid-related illness. For those who didn’t know him, it is difficult to overstate his impact on the scene. From a musical standpoint, while none of his projects ever achieved mainstream success or financial prosperity, they were always on the bleeding edge of innovation.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Off The Record - Death Of Me

As has been the case of late, I am doing a great deal of write ups on little known songs/releases and this one is no exception to that rule. This is one of the better Off The Record songs from their mostly unheard final EP in 2004 titled “Nothing New”. Nothing New was released in 2004 on a west coast punk label called New School Records. The label released albums by 7-10 Split, Off The Record, Twenty2, Not Long After, No Trigger, among many others.… Continued →

Song of the Day: The Blamed - 1200 Stares

By the time Give us Barrabbas came out (the band’s 7th album), The Blamed had already gone through at least 4 different genres: punk rock, crossover thrash, hardcore punk, and punk metal. Now they were dabbling in experimental post-hardcore, which, for my money was their most successful rendering of noise to date. “1200 Stares” starts off with a punishing, repetitive riff, and then we welcome some gang shouts: “We won’t stop what we start!” There’s an urgency in the cry that beseeches one to pay attention.… Continued →
