Song of the Day: Lovelorn - Feather

This was one of those ‘one and done’ bands, meaning they only released one album as Lovelorn. However, they were connected directly and indirectly to a number of other projects. Vocalist Jayson Holmes had been in metalcore band Eso-Charis, and later formed The Handshake Murders (who mostly recorded on secular labels). Corey Putman (Eso-Charis, Norma Jean) and Arthur Green (Eso-Charis, Living Sacrifice) also made appearances on the album. The album is a wonderfully strange concoction of emo-core, hardcore, indie rock and math rock–almost like Roadside Monument meets Coalesce, but with bits of Karate thrown in just because.… Continued →

As you will no doubt have heard, the mighty Starflyer 59 have just released their 15th full-length studio album (not counting dozens of other releases–EPs, 7″ singles, limited edition vinyl, box sets, live albums, etc.) making them officially the most prolific Chrindie band who ever existed.  Their stellar debut album, officially untitled but affectionately known as “Silver,” also turns 25 years old this year.  You can read the IVM review of their latest “Young in My Head” here.  The 15th album/25-year anniversary seemed too grand an occasion to let pass, so .… Continued →

My Epic Unleash Their Heavy New Track "White Noises" (Feat. Cory Brandan)

My Epic are back with a new song titled “White Noises” featuring Cory Brandan the frontman for Norma Jean. If you don’t know who My Epic are and aren’t familiar with Cory’s work, check out this song! This is an explosive, glass shattering heavy new track with enough sonic depth that it simply overwhelms the senses. I think there are three different fans of My Epic, the ones who love the light stuff (Broken Voice), the heavy “Behold”, and the ones who appreciation EVERYTHING the band does.… Continued →

New(ish) Norma Jean - "Children of the Dead"

We’re a little behind on this news, but around a month ago, Norma Jean released a B-side from the Polar Similar album called “Children of the Dead”. The song is available on the Polar Similar Deluxe Vinyl Set, which you can get HERE. You can check out the video for this track below, it’s pretty bizarre, but a great song! Right now, the band is in the studio recording their 8th LP and the follow up to Polar Similar, so we can hopefully expect it later this year.… Continued →

Most Anticipated Releases of 2019: Rob Jensen

So, 2018 is behind us, another year on the books. After having put together a list of my favorite releases for the year, I decided to try going in the opposite direction and form a list of the albums I’m anticipating most in the coming year. Now, a bit of a heads up before we dig in; I am almost certainly missing some albums here. Some may have escaped my attention, and I’m sure there are more to be announced yet as well. All mentioned below I’m sure are coming this year, but a specific date has yet to be given.… Continued →

5 Christian Metal/Hardcore Bands That You May Not Have Heard Of

These are some bands that were sort of popular, but didn’t get very far. Hopefully this sheds some light to the underground SFHC Scene or more appropriately, SFMC Scene. 5. One Way/Raid Christian metalcore/hardcore One Way formed in… I don’t know when. The 80’s. The band did not have very much success or really any publications. Other than one in HM in 1991. But Raid, their next band, had a little more success. Same genre as One Way, but with a Straight-Edge message, alongside the uplifting Christian message.… Continued →

Norma Jean and Wage War to Perform on River City Rockfest

Norma Jean has had their fill of success over the years. Wage War however is just getting off the ground, and are doing very well for themselves. Both bands have found a spot of River City Rockfest, a tour that includes bands such as Fozzy, Three Days Grace, Papa Roach, and famous Def Leppard, as well as several others. Norma Jean formed in 1997 as Luti-Kriss with Josh Scogin (The Chariot, ’68) Chris Day, Scottie Henry, Josh Swofford, Mick Bailey, and Daniel Davidson. In 2002 the band changed their name to Norma Jean and underwent some lineup changes to where now none of these members are in the band.… Continued →

5 Christian Metal Bands You May Not Have Heard Of (80's/90's Version)

Today, I am posting a list of Christian Metal bands from the old days that aren’t mentioned very often when talking about Christian metal. Most of them tend to be Nu-metal, ironically, even though the 90’s was the time for Nu-Metal/Rapcore. 5. Oficina G3 Oficina G3 is a Christian prog metal act from the late 80’s. Forming in 1987, the band began as a heavy metal/hard rock band, influenced by Stryper and Petra, but progressed into a Progressive metal/nu-metal/metalcore-ish band. This band was most likely thrown out, due to this period, when the Christian thrash scene had just hit it’s stride, with the Big 4 of the Christian scene: Deliverance, Vengeance Rising, Tourniquet and Believer.… Continued →

REVIEW : Norma Jean - Polar Similar

The Almighty Norma Jean simply cannot be stopped. The storied band just released their seventh record, and it’s their best yet. They’ve reunited with Solid State records, their production has never sounded better, and despite having been around over fifteen years, Polar Similar proves they haven’t lost any steam. Norma Jean has been an anomaly for quite a few years. Meridional and Wrongdoers showed the group continuing to stretch themselves to top each previous studio effort. They’ve been on an upward streak since 2010, and I was curious whether they could continue the trend with Polar Similar.… Continued →
