Black metal stalwarts Ascending King are back! They’ve just dropped a new single “Lignum Vitae,” which is a collaborative effort with Sebat Frost from Frost Like Ashes. Whether it’s due to that influence or not is hard to say, but the doomy elements first heard on the Ascending King EP released last year are gone this time in favor of a faster-paced black metal sound. Katharos is yet another project from Fire (Elgibbor, Fire Throne, Nuclear Blaze) on vocals and guitars, this time with help from drummer Taberah.  There is also some collaboration from former Frost Like Ashes members Sebat and Azahel for live dates. This recording is a single and ‘b-side’ and what we have here is no-frills, raw black metal.  No ‘atmospheric’ or ‘symphonic’ keyboards.  No overdubs or anything of the like.  This could easily pass as a release from the mid-90s Norwegian BM scene.  Appropriately lo-fi with hissed/snarled vocals and trebly guitars, this is great if you like first or second wave black metal.… Continued →

Nosral Recordings, the label of Mike “Sebat” Larson (Frost Like Ashes), has announced the signing of several new bands to their up and coming label. The first act is known simply as Enemy of Satan a project based out of Indonesia. It’s run all by Daniel Madha. The second is better known. Nuclear Blaze is yet another project formed by the legendary Fire, also known as Jarek Pozarycki, founder of Elgibbor, Fire Throne and a fellow member of Frost Like Ashes. Elgibbor, an Unblack metal project, started back in 1999. The founder, Jarek Pozarycki a.k.a. Fire, has played in several bands, most notably Frost Like Ashes. Elgibbor released 5 demos, 3 EPs (two splits), and 12 studio albums. On November 17, 2016, Fire put out a statement claiming the new album, entitled The Roots of Blood will be released on CD. The CD will be released through Visions of God Records.
