Talk about letting the monster out of the closet… or out from under the bed, for that matter. Monster says it all. Monster riffs. Monster vocals. Monster on the cover. And I’m not talking about Cookie Monster.

The Lost Concept is a local band hailing from Peters Creek, Alaska that brings a beautifully crafted, monsterous metal assault. It hits you as a bit of a cross between Soul Embraced and Thy Will Be Done. If you’re any kind of fan of big, brutal metal and you’re not sold by the 2:23 mark of the opening track… you may want to consider getting professional help.

“Here Comes The Monster” is a 5-track EP that is sure to leave you wanting more. The timing is spot on. The breakdowns are perfect. And the delivery is mesmerizing. The Lost Concept are one of my personal favorite metal bands. And not just because they’re homegrown… but because they flamin’ rock. Hard. You can tell that they’ve put a lot into this. It’s not just a bunch of guys in a garage with guitars they bought at Target and skills they honed playing Guitar Hero III. From the layered vocals that fluctuate from scream to growl to something reminiscent of a Gila Monster… to the howling guitars and the pounding bass. And where do I start on the drums… tribal fury and crazy timing. This guy’s a blur. A loud blur. But a blur none-the-less.

The CD comes in a little short at 16 minutes. But considering that the final track, “Psalm 130” is a two minute instrumental and the fact that everything is so well done… I think it’s more along the lines of wanting more as opposed to feeling short-changed.

Here’s a quote from their MySpace page, “The Lost Concept has always been much bigger than the musicians that have been in the band. The Lost Concept is more a movement and an idea. We believe people have lost the concept of life and we are here to bring them back to the light. We believe life should be fun, and that’s what we plan to do, is to make your life better with our music.”

Standout track was the opening track, “The Dying And The Sick”. But “Final Farewell” was a pretty killer track as well. Heck, I liked the whole CD… even the soft ambient “Psalm 130”.

Overall: The Lost Concept is a band that deserves to be heard. This is one of those CDs that you put in and then kinda snap out of the trance when it ends. It’s blistering… but captivating. Look for great things from these guys. But in the meantime, get this EP. You won’t regret it.
