A Plea For Purging is an up-and-coming metalcore outfit formed in 2005 in the music hub of Nashville, TN. Within a year of existence the band had played over 200 shows and built a nice following in the South Eastern US. They released a self-titled cd soon after forming and this EP is there second offering. The band has listed influences such as Dragonforce & Iron Maiden, which are most definitely tough bands to live up to, but with this EP, they’re off to a good start.

APFP have offered a very impressive debut and even more so seeing as it was done independently. The songs are filled with outstanding guitarwork, which is by far the highlight of the album. Most of the songs are mid-paced. Not extremely fast nor very slow. It’d be nice to see a bit more variety there. However the dual guitarists really show off throughout. The rhythm section & bass are both solid and back up the guitars well. The recorded sound is less than perfect and could use a better mix but you can see the potential regardless. Thankfully, they opted to avoid the usual, pretty sung choruses, and kept the intensity up throughout. Specifically Andrew’s vocals are good, but more the norm than a standout. They do fit well with the sound and his ability to go into a deeper tone is a plus.

Overall Rating: The band has put together 6 tracks of mature sounding metalcore. I’m hoping for a bit more metal than “core” on the full length. My main reason for saying that is that these guys can seriously shred and it’d be great to hear more of it. However, it was nice to have something a bit different sounding than the usual metalcore releases, which have gotten all too repetitive. I would recommend any who likes heavier music to give this disc a spin. (8/10)

Standout Tracks: “The Betrayars”, “Death Has Been Swallowed Up In Victory”
