Song of the Day: Blindside - Nerve

By in News, Song of The Day | 4 Comments

I remember when I first heard this song. It was on the Tooth & Nail Songs from the Penalty Box compilation, amidst other songs ranging from pop-punk to hardcore and everything in-between. But Blindside was hard to peg. It was heavy and raw, and kind of hardcore, but not really. There was a mild rap influence in the delivery, but it wasn’t really rapcore either. Post-hardcore hadn’t really occurred to me as a category yet.

The band put the song on their debut, self-titled, full-length album and a year later released a second–both albums on Tooth & Nail/Solid State. They then jumped to mainstream Elektra Records for 2 more albums, refining their sound into something more polished and resembling alternative metal or nu metal.

I had the privilege to catch the band live in Georgia in the summer of 1997, playing at a small church south of Atlanta with Luti-Kriss (who were still in high school at the time), World Against World, and Jesse and the Rockers. Great show!

Great band! Do you think they will ever put out any new music again?

They did have their single Gravedigger come out a couple years ago, I’m still hoping they come back with a little more music. I really liked Gravedigger overall

One of the wildest, rawest, meaningful-est songs I’ve ever laid ears on.
