Introducing: Perseverance

By in News | 10 Comments

Perseverance has been cultivating their sound the past couple of years now, and this writer personally is pleased with the results. I heard of them via bandcamp, by stumbling across their 2018 demo which sounded like it was recorded in a bedroom in San Marcos, Texas. (Sidenote: As a musician, I personally find that this sometimes results in the best production being raw and pure.)

Their demo was just that, and it was just a taste of what was to come. (Note: there is an expletive in one of the songs on said demo.) As with everything, life happens and I lost sight of Perseverance. Fast forward to today. Perseverance has released their EP “Anguish of the Soul” which is available on their bandcamp page for name your price and it does not disappoint!

I mentioned in a comment of Noah’s new releases that they will appeal to fans of Redeemer, From the Eyes of Servants, and Take it Back! (Post Zack), but the more I listen to it, I’m reminded more of Debtor and Fire the Sun. All the same, these guys deserve a listen.

Hey y’all, I’m the vocalist of Perseverance. I didn’t even know about this review until today. Thank you Mr. Leal for reviewing it. I am a Christian. However, these lyrics were written in a very tough time in my life. The lyrics on the demo and the lyrics on the new EP. While it is no excuse, those lyrics were my raw emotion. Also, I wrote all of those lyrics a few years ago. I’ve grown in my faith and matured since then. It isn’t my intention to make anyone to stumble, and at the time of writing those lyrics… Read more »

Word of warning- explicit language. Not impressed by IVM’s omission of any mention.

Sorry Jeb. I am not familiar with this band. I did not write the article nor did I police it. I trust my writers to find positive music from Christians that conveys a message of hope and truth. Does it always fit that tag? No, but we do our best to share great music with our listeners. Marco might have more info than I do on this subject

I get the initial sentiment, and we all have our own convictions that prick us more deeply, but it’s not exactly unbroken ground here. UO got a post for their last record, etc. Personally, I get triggered by all the goofy ideas/theology permeating Christian music/bands.

Either way, I’d cut Marco a break. Dude is long time contributer with good feedback and always offering new music via bands no one’s ever heard of.
