The Almost - Chokehold (Official Music Video)

By in Music Videos | 10 Comments

So it appears that the Aaron Gillespie (Underoath) led project, The Almost, is back with a brand new album titled “Fear Caller” which is out October 18th via Fearless Records. You can pre-order the record here. Now I’m not sure whether it fits the typical IVM content but I am always open to hearing your feedback. Check out the music video for “Chokehold” below and comment with your thoughts. This is much different than The Almost material of the past in terms of lyrical content. Enjoy!

Regardless of whether this is ok or not to be posting on IVM, let me just express that it’s frustrating that bands who have been identified with the Christian market who want to shed that identity and appeal to the broader secular market use such a strategy as using offensive lyrical content to disengage their former fans to prove to the world that they are not what they once were. I think it’s only fair to everyone if the artist would start a new project to reset everyone’s expectations. Instead, they want to retain and build upon the value their… Read more »

My personal opinion is that this doesn’t fit the typical IVM content, but I’m not upset of offended by it either.

I’m disappointed to see The Almost going in this direction, and I object to Indie Vision Music posting this video. The name of the Lord should not be taken in vain.

I upvoted this cause I didn’t think it fair to down vote. I don’t object with it being posted as a warning was placed (and frankly considering where Aaron has been based on interviews this shouldn’t be a surprise).

So, saw some of this content on his previous solo album, but the bridge is alarming. It will be interesting to see what the rest of the album talks about. “Your Father gave his heart for your to be hateful” is just confusing. Honestly I hope he has not completely jumped ship, he had some of the best lyrics for such a long time.

Bridge
Come on, use your heart and be grateful
Your father gave his heart for you to be hateful
He was the bastard man that put you on this ***damn island

Okay I thought it might be about his dad, ““It’s a story of my childhood that really comes apart in the bridge discussing my father,” Gillespie said of the track. “The song essentially explains how I got to be the way I am. I need the chokehold to succeed. It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written.”” – Aaron

Love the song! Unfortunate that it included that lyric. I’ll still support Aaron though.

I really hope that Aaron never sees this comment because if he does it probably means he’s read a lot of crushing comments already. But dude if you are reading this I just want you to know I’m sorry for the hurt that the Christian music industry and its fans have caused you over the years. And I wish you the best of luck with your future music career regardless of whether you call yourself a Christian or not.
