First off, since you’ll be new to most of our readers, give us a short back story of the band.

We are a band called The Icarus Account. We are a two man group with an indie/ acoustic/pop feel. And the cool thing about us is that we are twins.

Where are you guys from? How is the music scene there?

We are from Fort Myers, FL and honestly there’s not much of a music scene there. When we were in high school there was a little bit of a hardcore scene but nothing really in our genre. We really got started making a name for ourselves at our different colleges. One was in Lakeland, FL which had a decent music scene, and one was in DeLand, FL.

Is there any significance to the name The Icarus Account?

Yes, the name comes from a story in Greek mythology in which Icarus and his father are trapped on an Island. The 2 glue wings to themselves to get off and before they leave Icarus’ father gives him a warning. He says to stay close to him and to not fly too high. As they start flying Icarus gets prideful and excited and flies away from his father. The sun then melts the wax from his wings, they fall off, and he falls to his death. To us the story was a reminder to stay humble and close to the things that we knew to be true. Mainly God, our family, and the way that we were raised.

You guys are twin brothers. Was music in your families blood? Did you grow up playing music?

Umm… yes and no. Music isn’t really in the family blood, but we did grow up with it. Our parents started us on the violin and the piano when we were 5. And then we picked up guitar when we were 12.

How long have you guys been performing together as an official group?

We have been performing officially as The Icarus Account for 2 1/2 years

Describe your overall sound.

Acoustic… with and indie pop feel.

Who are your biggest influences?

Shawn McDonald, Zack Thompson, David Crowder Band, Chasing Victory, Blink-182, Dashboard Confessional

You released an album called Mayday back in the Fall of 2008. How was the overall response to that?

Oh man it was incredible. I mean to begin with we got so much support from our hometown/college towns. And it really put us on another level with our music. It really kinda gave us an identity and it was cool to see that start to grow. And our sales went up so much. We actually sold more copies of our old EP (Hold On For Dear Life) in the few months following the Mayday release than we had ever sold before Mayday came out.

Are you working on a new album? If so, can you give us any details?

Yes we are! We’re starting to get really excited about it actually. Umm we’re looking to release it in early December. It will be a full-length album. And it will have 5 all acoustic tracks, and 5 full band tracks.

Have you done much touring since your last album?

We’ve done a lot of shows around FL. And then we’ve done about 2 months of out of state touring around the country.

Who are some bands that you would really like to tour with.

For some reason every time I am asked this question the only band that comes to mind is The Rocket Summer. So I guess I really want to tour with them haha. A few others would be This Providence, The Maine, A Rocket To the Moon, Matt Nathanson and The Fray.

Do you view TIA as a full-time gig or is it on the side?

We have actually just dropped out of college in order to pursue TIA full time.

What are some goals that you want to achieve with the band? If it’s not full-time what do you guys do for a living?

Well first off we want it to be full time so we want to be able to make a living off of it. But honestly as far as goals for the band we just want to be as successful as possible. I would love to be at the point where we can headline a tour and sell-out thousands of tickets every night.

Your Myspace mentions that you are Christians. Do you view TIA a ministry or is it just a band that happens to be made up of Christians?

I mean I think it’s a ministry but I get nervous about what people think that means. I mean it in an authentic and genuine way. You know, we’re not hiding behind this image of a band and in reality just wanting to convert people to Christianity. I don’t think that’s what ministry, Christianity, or Jesus is about. At the same point we’re not really calling ourselves a Christian band. I mean if someone wants to call us that it’s fine, but we don’t want to cut off our market. Mostly we just want to influence as many people as possible for good. For lovely things and Godly things. And we want our faith to be real. I’ve said before I don’t want to write a Christian song or pretend to live my life as a Christian because I have to look good for my “Christian band” or my “Christian label” that I’m signed to. I want to live my life for Christ because it’s real to me and I really believe it. And if I write a Christian song I want it to be because God is doing something real in my heart.

Is there anything else you’d like to leave with our readers?

Thanks for reading this. It means a lot to us. Please check out our music and definitely be on the lookout for our new album!!!

Before we wrap up, give our readers your best sales pitch as to why they should check you guys out.

Check us out because you might like us, and we’d love you forever if you did. And we have a sound that is real and versatile. We have two song writers in one band coming out with music that’s not cut up and edited by a control-freak label…yet 😉
