This is an impromptu review in homage of Carman’s passing. For those who may not know who he is, he was a singer/songwriter/performer whose music was all over contemporary Christian radio in the 80’s & 90’s. He did many ballads, but also dabbled with rock & rap & even kids music. Many of his songs were stories put to music. And btw, could the backing band & guest vocalist be from Petra?
I was never a Carman fan. I found his music cheesy, even when I was more into the CCM side of music, before the heavy stuff took hold. That being said, I still respected his work and his message, and the impact he had on so many souls. I remember he made a boxing movie, and I read at the time he used a Living Sacrifice song or two from The Hammering Process (the singing parts, as one would expect). LS is one of my fave bands of all time
Sad to hear he’s gone, I just binged through a bunch of his music in January. “The Champion”, “Lazarus Come Forth”, “Mission 3:16”, “RIOT”, and “No Monsters” (nostalgia value from being young mostly) were my most iconic Carman songs. I didn’t realize until I listened recently how much his music had inspired what I appreciate in sound design.
