    Anberlin Album Sales

Anberlin sold 37,000 of it’s New Surrender album in it’s first week out.  Is that higher or lower than you expected?  (thedailychorus)

Nobody has commented on this! Well, I beleive it’s a decent number, but I expected more.

    2. bloodwater | October 8th, 2008 | 1:08 pm

what happened to all the comments that were here

    3. bloodwater | October 8th, 2008 | 1:11 pm

to answer a question that was posted here before…cities sold 34,000 copies in its first week and debuted at 19 on the billboard 200 whereas with new surrender anberlin debuted at 13 and sold 37,000 (ap.net is stating it was 36,000 so the number is probably somewhere between those two)

    4. fusse | October 8th, 2008 | 1:40 pm

hey where did my post go!!! :(

    5. bloodwater | October 8th, 2008 | 2:29 pm

sorry, i think this might be my fault for hitting the wrong button
thank you to all the people who had posted comments already

    6. Stef | October 8th, 2008 | 2:57 pm

Seems as though the new major label hasnt really had an impact on the bands’ fanbase and sales thus far…

    7. (a different) Dan | October 8th, 2008 | 3:23 pm

I expected a little more but not much more. The early album leak hurt their sales big time

    8. fusse | October 8th, 2008 | 5:15 pm

I said in my earlier comment, that in my opinion the leak hurt them because the album wasn’t a killer. If it had been better and received more praise, I believe many of those who downloaded it would have bought it. Now when they heard the album before the release, many of them weren’t impressed enough to actually buy it.

Without the leak, definitely more sales. I have no doubt.

    9. JoshIVM | October 8th, 2008 | 5:20 pm

I agree with Fusse. And with an album that isn’t as good you will also lose free word-of-mouth promotion. I wouldn’t recommend this album to any of my friends.

    10. jeff | October 8th, 2008 | 7:03 pm

Downfall of the internet I suppose. That’s why bands should maybe stop posting songs before the album actually releases. Sure, it’s nice to hear it, but by the time the album comes out, you’ve already heard it. That’s what happened when I bought Dance or Die. Good album, but I pretty much already heard it enough to take away the newness. Any freebies should be offered after the release( you know, for those who can’t afford the entire album). Or maybe the bands should just take more secure precautions with their work.

…I think this was a very solid CD, for the most part. Sales are about what I expected.

Industry is going down the pipes, it’ll be interesting to see where we are at in 5 to 10 years from now.

      *music industry

    14. bloodwater | October 9th, 2008 | 6:31 am

jeff, it is up to you as a listener to decide whether you want to listen to those online clips or not. i’ve seen alot of comments on here from people who stay away from album streams and online clips because they want to hear the whole album on the day it comes out which would mean it would still keep its newness.

as far as them getting a big boost from their new label, I think it will help them over time. they are getting alot more radio airplay on mainstream stations than they ever did before and that will let a huge amount of people hear about them who wouldn’t have checked them out otherwise.

    15. John | October 9th, 2008 | 2:53 pm

considering the quality of the album, these are decent numbers. of course, anberlin deserves way better, but this time around, the substance just wasn’t there.

    16. Manuel | October 9th, 2008 | 4:37 pm

Exactly. Won’t venture as far as to say that it was garbage but..you know. It wasn’t good.

    17. linds4lif | October 9th, 2008 | 6:26 pm

Good for Anberlin…I liked the cd, it is not as good as I thought it would be. However, it was good cd, to me.

    18. jeff | October 9th, 2008 | 10:00 pm

I still think “Never Take Friendship Personal” was their best

    19. Manuel | October 9th, 2008 | 10:30 pm

      I agree with Jeff.

    20. Brandon | October 9th, 2008 | 10:44 pm

It’s hard to top “Cities” and I am afraid that they didn’t do it with this release.

    21. LenIVM | October 9th, 2008 | 11:58 pm

why do they need to top a previous CD?

They don’t NEED TO, especially with trying to top Cities (which took me a long time to get into).

From what I have heard of the CD, I likes.

I just wish that Stephen controlled his singing better during live shows…. he’s a good singer, but I feel he tries too hard with it. I’ve seen em live about three times before, but the first time was AMAZING and that was during Blueprints era Anberlin a few years back.

    22. Ryan Y | October 10th, 2008 | 7:41 am

The problem I have with it is that it feels like they tried to make another Cities and didn’t even come close. I still bought it because I love this band and want to support them but in my opinion it is the worst of their 4 albums.

    23. LenIVM | October 10th, 2008 | 9:18 am

Probably is the worst of their four, I have no doubts about that.

But hey, look at their previous releases.

    24. John Wayne | October 10th, 2008 | 5:04 pm

Never Take Friendship Personal is not their best album.

Stephen is not a good singer live.

I still hope this album sells well for them, but I have my doubts.
