Cruel To Be Young album cover

You can see Jonezetta’s album artwork for their new one Cruel To Be Young below.  This album comes out on August 16th and the cover was created by the Invisible Creature design team.  What do you think of it?

I guess learning how to spell was also boring for you in school? :)

    3. John | July 31st, 2008 | 3:46 pm

no i did it for phonetic emphasis

      i actually like it now

Invisible Creature gets lazy sometimes, at least they aren’t recycling old ideas…I mean the font style for As Cities Burn (Come Now Sleep) was the same for Advent and now for Trenches…really small grayish font put in the corner somewhere in three lines. Come on boys, you are better than that, get creative!

yuck. I guess basic is the new flashy…??? or something like that?

jake, i kinda get what you’re saying, but i think that “trends” and the like are going to dictate a lot of what gets used as design for bands. plus there’s the tendency to develop stylistic cues, every designer has them. it’s likely because IC do so many covers for T&N / SS that they seem to get a similar look.

not that i want to sound like i’m calling you out or anything, just to make that clear. i’m just aware that sometimes a client has this real specific idea, and it’s impossible to get them to listen to you (did i go to design school for nothing?).
i dunno, they’re busy guys. you’re not gonna like every cover. meh.

from the post that I read, both The Becoming and Jonezetta asked for “just text” covers so it probably was something quite specific they wanted

      I like this one.

    10. Brandon | August 1st, 2008 | 9:05 am

I like the Green of their name matched with the black. It looks cool.

Speaking of Jonezetta, when are you we going to get some new music?

    12. tyler h | August 1st, 2008 | 9:22 am

I think this album cover will make or break many people’s lives and we should all duck and cover our heads under our desks for protection from the fallout.

    13. Manuel | August 1st, 2008 | 10:42 am

Hmm. I guess white covers are what’s “in” right now. First TFK’s “The Flame in All of Us” then Shinedown, and now Jonezetta.

How silly. It’ll probably sell big, though. I guess I was just expecting something colorful for Jonezetta…since they’re like dance party rock.

    14. John Wayne | August 1st, 2008 | 12:23 pm

I LOVE this cover. It’s perfect, especially since the band requested just type. It’s no where near your typical IC cover, so there should be no complaints about it in that regard. They’ve never done this kind of typography.

As for Tyler H, the art makes or breaks where an album lands in my years end list. Always has, always will. If I love the art, I tend to rate the album higher. Just the way I be.

    15. tyler h | August 8th, 2008 | 1:54 pm

why would this come out on a saturday?

    16. tyler h | August 8th, 2008 | 1:55 pm

nevermind, i get it, it comes out SEPTEMBER 16th, not august

    17. Admiral Tobias | August 8th, 2008 | 1:58 pm

…I suppose it’s good if the band asked for text. I just don’t see why they did…mehfest.

I’ll still get it though. I love these guys.

I like the cover. It sort of reminds me of black motorcycle club.
I am friends with the new drummer, alex, from jonezetta and he let me hear some of the new album. it’s waaaay different but, honestly, it’s one of the best records i’ve heard all year. they are really doing something unique with it. the songs are super infectious. i’ve only heard it once and i can remember probably 70 percent of the melodies and lyrics.

      “”":::::SPOILER ALERT:::::”"”"”

David Bazan from Pedro the Lion fame guest vocals on the song “Sick in the Teeth”. How they got him to do that, I don’t know. It sounds unbelievable. By far the best song on the record. The groove buckles you in your seat while the guitars are thrashy and the mellotron is smooth. By far their best song to date.
This record really rules. And I’d even say that if I weren’t one of the dudes friends.
