YouTube Hands Over User Data to Viacom

This should shock many of you. Jonathan posted this news blurb on Taking Over but I thought it was relevant enough to post here too. Apparently a U.S. Federal Judge has ordered Google Inc. to hand over Viacom the records of every video users have watched on the video sharing site, YouTube. These records include users names and I.P. addresses. This is unreal. Read the article here.

Funny that this was posted on a Canadian site.

This doesn’t look good for me, because I’m a huge fan of PG 300 and stuff like that…

here’s a CNN article about it

why do you think Google would want Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert questioned?

There is 12TB of data, they are not targeting specific people. They are seeing if Google is lying about the way they detect copyrighted material and if the algorithm they use does find copyrighted content.

Tyler you’re right in the fact that is what they’re saying they want, but the issue here is a court case sets precedent. I understand what they’re trying to do but this opens up a dangerous option to invade privacy that can be abused by whoever. Hopefully this is appealed and taken to a higher court because this is a pretty big case.

yeah, the main thing is the precedent this sets…nanny ntions here we come?

George Bush does the same thing with phone records but it’s for our defense. If you believe in the capitalist idea, this is for the defense of a corporation, and you have to support it. That is, if you support George Bush.
