yeah, i loved TLH debut. But i dislike their drinking and smoke attitude. :(

    2. Manuel | July 3rd, 2008 | 7:41 am

Why does T&N sign people that aren’t glorifying the Lord with their music? They seem to be doing it more and more often..ah, this discussion is for the thread.

    3. John Wayne | July 3rd, 2008 | 7:57 am

I loved Holland and I love the Lonely Hearts. The new songs rule, they sound like the perfect culmination of Paper Tapes. I’ll be buying this for sure. I wish I lived in Nash for this one night.

    4. Manuel | July 3rd, 2008 | 9:20 am

Just so that my post doesn’t cause future drama, I don’t mean singing “Holy art Thou” in songs, but also their lifestyles need to reflect some kind of light, and I’m not really seeing that anymore with a ot of these groups out here.

    5. ryan | July 3rd, 2008 | 9:38 am

the lonely hearts arent on T&N. it’s amazing how people will love music and then when they see a band drinking or smoking, they immediately dont like them anymore. it’s interesting how people will immediately notice someone elses speck when they have their own plank to worry about.

    6. bloodwater | July 3rd, 2008 | 10:06 am

that’s such a general statement to make.
you dont even know why that person doesn’t like their “drinking and smoking attitude”. (the following statement is a general one and not based upon the band in question) if we all had to be without sin before we could try and help eachother then we would never be able to be accountable to one another or speak into someone’s life when they’re doing something they know they shouldn’t.

    7. John Wayne | July 3rd, 2008 | 10:28 am

I have to agree with Ryan. It’s lame.

I don’t know why he doesn’t like their “drinking and smoking attitude” b/c he left it at that, a perfectly unnecessary bash on their personal lives.

I believe you are way off base, bloodwater. Posting blanket statements against others personal lives on a website isn’t the most Christlike thing to do either. It’s actually quite cowardly. We should never call a person we don’t know to the carpet in a public forum. Accountability is a one on one/small group setting, this is not.

    8. bloodwater | July 3rd, 2008 | 10:40 am

there are times and places for public accountability and that would be if one on one hasn’t worked. I also dont believe that a public forum is the place to bash people’s personal lives or to bash people in general. ryan’s comment almost seemed to be to be a bash right back at that person which is what I didn’t like about how he said that. but I dont know ryan other then on here and I dont know how he meant it. he probably meant it with good intention. and yes John we should remember to stay away from making those kind of blanket statements against others personal lives when we dont know the situation, thank you for that reminder. the problem with comments on a forum are that it doesn’t give you any back story or any other explanation other then what is said. when I posted my comments above I was thinking more about one on one situations and church settings then I was our IVM page here. not sure if that makes any more sense but hopefully it does.

    9. tyler h | July 3rd, 2008 | 10:52 am

you assume that everyone still has a speck in their eye.
i believe that what Jesus said was to first remove the speck in your own eye and then to help the other one.

Gal 6:1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.

i think thats the verse we’re all looking for.

its okay to call someone out on their sin (i’m not going to get into the debate on if smoking and drinking are sins, i have my thoughts on those, but dont want to get into that right now)…but blasting someone on the internet probably isn’t the best way…though i’m sure i’m guilty of it too. now if the intent is to warn others that maybe this isn’t the best band to look up to then i understand that, i think the key is how it is presented, if its in love or in pride.

    10. bloodwater | July 3rd, 2008 | 11:02 am

I was thinking more of Matthew 7:3-5
as far as us having a speck in our eye, I dont think there are any of us who are living without sin in our own life so yes I am assuming that everyone still has a speck in their eye (or do you think speck is talking about something else?). one of the parts of these verses that sticks out to me is where it talks about those who dont acknowledge what is going on in their own lives. when we talk to someone about things that they’re doing that dont line up with scripture (talking in general here) we need to also have acknowledged that this isn’t coming from a “I’m better then you who’s stumbling” scenario but a “I also struggle with this and this and this and I see you struggling with this”.

and yes as you said Tyler, presentation is very important. it can be so hard these days to really get what a person means when all you have is letters of text on the internet or with texting on your cell phone.

    11. bloodwater | July 3rd, 2008 | 11:05 am

I was just reading through the Message version of Matthew 7:1-5 and thought it was interesting.
“Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults— unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, ‘Let me wash your face for you,’ when your own face is distorted by contempt? It’s this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor.”

oh and as far as the music, I forgot to add my two cents. I really liked their older album and am looking forward to this one. they put on a great concert when I saw them 2 years ago in Nashville.

    12. tyler h | July 3rd, 2008 | 11:07 am

      the key word is “edify”

      to build each other up

if we had to be perfect in order to help each other no one would be in ministry

but there are people who are walking according to the spirit and those who are walking according to the flesh

if there isn’t any discipline in the church then it will get out of hand

if we can’t in love say to another brother that what they are doing is wrong according to the scriptures then we can’t edify

    13. bloodwater | July 3rd, 2008 | 11:16 am

I guess the line between being judgmental and trying to edify someone is determined by the heart and intention of the person who’s doing it.

seems like we’re pretty much on the same page.

    14. tyler h | July 3rd, 2008 | 11:43 am

it seems like half the time on here people try to argue with me while agreeing with me haha. silly internets. :)

    15. bloodwater | July 3rd, 2008 | 11:48 am

      YOU TAKE THAT BACK!!!11!

    16. John Wayne | July 3rd, 2008 | 11:57 am

that’s cuz the other half the time you’re just wrong, tyler. haha.

Seriously though, I’m listening to Paper Tapes again and it’s so good. It’s a tragedy how overlooked this album was by everyone, including T&N.

Is this EP a digital only thing for those that can’t make the show? Or can it be mail ordered? Are you going to this show, bloowater? Wanna buy me a copy and get it autographed? I’ll of course buy it + shipping.

    17. bloodwater | July 3rd, 2008 | 12:04 pm

John, these are the times I wish I still lived by Nashville because I would definitely be there for this but unfortunately I don’t any longer…back up to Canada for me. I don’t see any information yet about whether its going to be just digital or if you can order a physical copy.

I haven’t listened to Paper Tapes in well over a year but right now I’m wishing I didn’t have to wait to get home from work to listen to my copy.

    18. John Wayne | July 3rd, 2008 | 12:33 pm

Canada? I see. If out of some shear act of randomness The Undecided get back together, play a show and release an exclusive EP, consider yourself on call.

It’s a standing offer, though, to anyone who lives in Nashville. I want this EP very much.

I just finished listening to Paper Tapes again, still perfection.

    19. Brandon | July 3rd, 2008 | 1:18 pm

Wow, I step away from the site for a day or so and look what happens, we get all controversial again ;) No one is going to hell for smoking and drinking, I just want to make that clear. Health wise, those two thing are certainly not the best for you. Smoking always leaves a bad impression on people I think. I know I’ve gotten the wrong idea about people before who I saw smoking. I also have family members who smoke and are Christians, so there you go.

    20. Josiah Holland | July 3rd, 2008 | 2:56 pm

Thanks for writing and talking and debating guys! It’s good to see that there are still people out there who care and love the band. I am a person who loves Jesus and others and wants to follow His teaching as much as possible everyday.

I’ll say two things. Smoking isn’t a sin anymore than eating too much or drinking 100 cups of coffee a day. It’s just not good for your body. If someone stumbles because of it, that’s their sin. Two, drinking isn’t a sin. Being drunk all the time might be, but we should move on from pointing out what’s wrong with our brothers and sisters and just love them or not. If you don’t love me, that’s ok. Let’s just not get on here and pretend like we do if we don’t!

I do love you guys and hope all is well with your walk or journey or whatever you’re on in life. Christian or not. Seek truth. Not personal self-righteousness.

ALSO, you can buy the EP on cdbaby.com and itunes (soon). Or if you REALLY want a copy, just email us through myspace and I’ll give you an address to send in money and all that.

      Talk soon,
      Josiah

    21. tyler h | July 3rd, 2008 | 3:58 pm

i don’t think anyone condemned anyone to hell here haha.

smoking and drinking don’t edify me. both kinda make me wanna puke just being around it.

    22. John | July 3rd, 2008 | 5:21 pm

tyler h’s galatians comment is RIGHT ON.

the speck verse is used severely out of context. christians need to be able to discern what is right and what is wrong.

    23. U.J. Rosas | July 3rd, 2008 | 9:25 pm

wow, i did’nt wanted to creat a whole discution. Sorry.

My point was, i don’t listen to a band only for the music and lyrics. I also enjoy a band who have something to offer besides that. That’s my life style.

A band like TLH who talks about such great things in their lyrics, translate the opposite when it comes to attitude.

Maybe i take music too personal. :)

    24. U.J. Rosas | July 3rd, 2008 | 9:27 pm

      *discussion

      sorry

    25. Brandon | July 4th, 2008 | 6:23 am

Thank you Josiah for visiting our site and contributing to the discussion here. I agree with everything you said. I look forward to buying your ep when it releases.

    26. John Wayne | July 4th, 2008 | 7:22 am

Josiah! Yes indeed, I for one still love and care about The Lonely Hearts. I’ve been wondering when you’ll release something new. I’ll contact you through your myspace page to figure out how to buy the disc direct from you. I REALLY want one, haha.

I agree with what you said as well, right on. Thanks for commenting about the discussion. Very cool move. I love the honesty, which is what I love about your music.
