Definitely going to be one of the best releases of 2008. Also: FINALLY a good album cover to come out of the T&N camp this year! I was beginning to give up hope. :[

    2. Brandon | May 9th, 2008 | 10:00 pm

Now that is what I call an album cover!!

    3. John | May 9th, 2008 | 10:17 pm

      sick

    4. Klon_Re | May 9th, 2008 | 10:20 pm

      Woah! Nice!

    5. mymortaltreason | May 10th, 2008 | 4:58 am

      crazy awesome!

    6. _pole | May 10th, 2008 | 6:57 am

Looking forward to this one! I think they have great potential.

I don’t like the cover though. Looks like 90s “art” photography, kinda dated, absolutely not my taste. Did you notice that they got the perspective wrong? Compare the rim of the glass and the burning thing above it.

    7. jordan | May 10th, 2008 | 10:06 am

no the perspectives right. if you look at it too long it messes with your head though.

    8. Admiral Tobias | May 10th, 2008 | 10:49 am

The Since October, Sever Your Ties, and The Famine covers are all better than this one, Manuel. I like it, though.

    9. The Headless Horseman | May 10th, 2008 | 3:23 pm

      Good cover; I’m a fan.

    10. John | May 10th, 2008 | 4:15 pm

ohhhh the famine cover. man, that is just plain AWESOME.

since october and sever your ties covers are both pretty bad

    11. Manuel | May 10th, 2008 | 7:40 pm

Yea um…Since October def doesn’t have a better cover than this. The where the guys sitting there hooked up writing stuff? No. This is just better looking, and less plain. And btw…I meant so far. I didn’t necessarily clarify it, but that’s what I was getting at. All of the albums that you mentioned Tobias haven’t come out yet. This cove remains the best to come out of the T&N camp this year. :-)

    12. KnownameCris | May 11th, 2008 | 12:04 am

At first glance, All that came to mind was wow. This album is going to be amazing no doubt!!

    13. John | May 11th, 2008 | 1:43 pm

album covers don’t indicate how good albums are

    14. KnownameCris | May 11th, 2008 | 11:47 pm

Earlier music created by the artist does.

    15. _pole | May 12th, 2008 | 8:14 am

Yeah, earlier music created by The Classic Crime indicates that this could be really good. I like their first album, but not all songs on it are good. I will definitely check it out! …oh and if I like it I will buy it, depite the album cover :)

…which has a wrong perspective in it. the glass has a stronger perspectivity - this is becaus it’s photograpged from a smaller distance. by the way, it’s a montage, these metal things don’t usually fly ;)

    16. micah | May 12th, 2008 | 9:58 am

ROFL. this is the craziest looking thing ever.

      i like it though.

    17. tyler h | May 12th, 2008 | 10:05 am

i only buy albums based on the cover

    18. Brandon | May 12th, 2008 | 11:47 am

Tyler only buys albums based on if the singer is cute or not. ha ha.

    19. tyler h | May 12th, 2008 | 11:58 am

its true, i has lyke twelve copies of britt nicole’s “say it”

    20. Matt B | May 12th, 2008 | 12:00 pm

is that also why you like the almost so much? fangirl

    21. Brandon | May 12th, 2008 | 12:34 pm

      haha. lol.

    22. tyler h | May 12th, 2008 | 12:38 pm

Aaron is a pretty man hahaha.

    23. Brandon | May 12th, 2008 | 2:48 pm

I knew it Tyler, I just knew it ;)

    24. Jay | May 12th, 2008 | 3:39 pm

Also: FINALLY a good album cover to come out of the T&N camp this year!

      Er…yeah…

      o.O

    25. John | May 12th, 2008 | 4:06 pm

      teh xrubyzx yo.

    26. Manuel | May 12th, 2008 | 4:14 pm

Yes. There was only one song on their first album that I didn’t like..Warrior Poets. Now that song was trash.

    27. Brandon | May 12th, 2008 | 4:25 pm

[since october and sever your ties covers are both pretty bad ....]

I would have to disagree with you there John. I think the Sever Your Ties album cover is really great. I have high hopes for that album. I dont know what to think of Since October.

    28. Colt | May 12th, 2008 | 6:35 pm

OMiGosh, all this hype about the xrubyzx, i almost picked up their album today. almost.
And britt nicole is prity shweet. ;)

Oh, well I had better get the Sophia debut before they become a household name (I’m so slow)

As for on topic, I think the album cover is really cool. I’ll be getting my copy July 22nd.

    29. A Grand Design - The Classic Crime - The Silver Cord | May 13th, 2008 | 7:07 am

[...] As one commenter over at IVM astutely pointed out, the perspective of the entire thing is off, assuming that the back part of the glass rim or the hovering torch-plate thingy isn’t bent or warped. Odd. [...]

    30. _pole | May 13th, 2008 | 11:37 am

Oh cool, I’m famous now! :D

@Manuel: I totally agree, and I’m glad that it’s not just me! I also think that The Coldest Heart stands out as the best song, and also the most creatively produced one. We all look elsewhere also totally rocks.

    31. John Wayne | May 13th, 2008 | 12:00 pm

This thread is nuts. THE PERSPECTIVE IS NOT OFF!!! Eye level is just below the fire cylinder, thus the front edge of the glass should lower away from the horizon line and the front edge of the cylinder should raise upward. Grab a couple of glasses and hold them in front of your face at the same distance apart as the cover, with one glass below eye level and the other above. There you have it, PROPER PERSPECTIVE. Go buy Rex Vicat Cole’s book and read it if you really care about this perspective stuff. For some reason, I doubt anyone does, just nit picky people.

Also, this cover cannot be judged until you see the whole concept… at least I hope there’s more to it than just the cover.

    32. _pole | May 13th, 2008 | 3:37 pm

Dear John, if you had read my posts carefully you would have noticed that I am very positive about the upcoming TCC album. No need to shout.

I hope this works… I’ve made a little graphic for those who believe what they see.

Dear John, if you had read my posts carefully, you would have noticed that I was very positive about the upcoming TCC album, no need to shout.

Here’s why I think the perspective is wrong:
      http://de.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=33ma4qx&s=3
Sorry, I can’t describe it with words.

At the end of the day, as soon as the music is out, I’ll forget about the cover anyway! ;)

    34. Admiral Tobias | May 13th, 2008 | 6:04 pm

Mr. Wayne is the artist here, folks.

    35. John Wayne | May 13th, 2008 | 8:08 pm

_pole, thanks for your diagram. It’s a legit argument, one that doesn’t need to be heated b/c it isn’t a big deal. Your diagram proves my point, though, which is that the line of site is just below the flaming dish, thus flattening it’s perspective depth and widening the glasses depth. Your eyes have to be at the right point, just like in a Rembrandt painting. If you’re looking at it from below, of course it’s going to throw everything off.

Either way, I = super excited for this release, but I still care about the art. It’s my job… literally.

And thanks for watching my back Admiral, you the man!

    36. _pole | May 13th, 2008 | 8:47 pm

      No heat here. :)

So you see it like you look down on the glass like this?
      http://de.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2u4h6h3&s=3
If that was the case we could see the surface of the liquid in the glass, but we can’t. That means that the line of sight hast to be at the level of the liquid or lower, and it can’t be between glass and dish.

I guess it’s like this drawing with the old and the young woman, you can see it both ways.

    37. John Wayne | May 13th, 2008 | 10:37 pm

_pole, I can see your point there. It does look like we should see the liquid in the glass. I guess I just took it as the water below boiling up and the water in the glass turning to wine (or whatever) doing something similar. I personally thought it odd to be focusing on whether or not it was out of perspective rather than focusing on the quality of the idea (or lack thereof). I actually hated the cover when I first saw it… now I’m just ok with it.

Anyway, you looking forward to this album? I hear it’s gonna be good. Can’t wait!

    38. _pole | May 14th, 2008 | 12:23 am

Yeah, I am definitely looking forward to it! I still haven’t gotten around to buying the Seattle EP yet, but the two songs that are in the E-Card are great. So maybe that’s what I should spend the meantime on. :)

Actually that’s a good question: What could be the idea of this artwork? I don’t have a clue.

    39. fusse | May 14th, 2008 | 1:54 am

I bet there’s a lot of symbols in the cover art and it would be interesting to know the artist’s mind behind them. Like water turning into wine, flame on that thing (whatever it’s called) and the ashes/coal/something else on the ground.

Waiting for someone to explain it.

    40. _pole | May 14th, 2008 | 3:21 am

The image implicates two opposed movements:
      - the dish that flies over the glass (I think it was lying on the rim of the glass first)
      - the red liquid that just fell down into the water

The key to what these movements mean is in the title: Silverchird. This is what I found when searching for that term:
      http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=60168

It’s all there, the golden bowl, the blood, and the Silverchord. But on the picture the Silverchord is missing. It’s a symbol for the moment of death.

    41. tyler h | May 14th, 2008 | 7:53 am

actually…”near death”…i read an interview where they said the silver chord was an experience that they had read of people who had near death experiences.
