For Today Gets Ripped a New One….

For Today gets ripped by Decoymusic.com. Read their review here. Do you agree or disagree with the writer? I think he was pretty harsh.

As much as I’m friends with the guys and love what they’re doing, there are a few good points in that. However, I will not rate it that low. I’m working on the review right now.

Sent you an email about reviewing. please read.

That was a bit overdone. Granted, they may not be the most original band ever, but they aren’t all that bad either. My biggest problem with the review was the guys stance on their lyrics. In the band bio, right before the comparison to ABR and BTBAM, Mattie is quoted saying “This has nothing to do with music and everything to do with our faith in Christ.”

I really don’t think For Today is going to be offended because that guy said they were too preachy. Obviously the mission of their band is to spread the gospel, and they just choose to be straightforward about it and not hide behind symbolism and poetic language. I actually thought it was kind of cool how they used a direct quote from Romans 1 in one of their lyrics (obviously something the reviewer would miss).

I dont know, like I said, their music isn’t amazing but it’s not bad either. And honestly I respect them for not beating around the bush when it comes to their faith. If you want deep lyrics there’s plenty of other bands out there for that, but if you want to share Jesus, some people’s skulls are too thick to get it any other way.

I can’t decide if I should buy this or not. I get so many differing opinions on For Today and the last couple Facedown records I’ve bought have left a little to be desired - Kingston Falls & Thieves & Liars. Granted I only bought them last week and haven’t had tons of time with them.

Meh. When a genre becomes popular, reviewers get lazy and use that fact as a liability. It’s always, “This band sounds like other bands that are popular,” and that’s the extent of it. It works with a lot of jaded metal and indie types and it doesn’t require much thought.

I personally like that kind of lyrics in the music I listen to…but I do fine the whole “Ride ‘em cowboy” kind of random

Watch this video with the old vocalist:

It’s random, but it used to be so cool.

In reference to the Ride ‘em Cowboy thing.

    9. DontXBlink | April 4th, 2008 | 6:42 pm

also i thought the ride ‘em cowboy was just a pit call

    10. JoshIVM | April 4th, 2008 | 6:52 pm

The cowboy thing is lame. It turned me off to the whole song when I heard it. I think the album is a decent debut and I agree with portions of both reviews (ours and Decoy’s). It’s still worth checking out if you’re into heavier music, but wont blow you away.

i’m sure some of you may having seen this coming, from me anyways… are they even serious? i find that decoy music review uncalled for. for today is generic? what the crap? walk into a store and see how many bands have stickers on their cds that say “for fans of” i’m not making excuses for For Today. but why them? out of every other “august burns red/ btbam” knock off why trash For Today? there are much worse bands out there that musically sound like them. but how are their lyrics? a heck of a lot more pointless than some of For Todays. i happen to be a fan of “preachy bands”. i don’t see why any other band can get up and try to sell whatever they want to the crowd but it’s dumb for a band like For Today to share what they believe. sure this album isn’t the greatest in the world, but it’s not at all trash. as a whole i’d give it an 8.25ish.

Other bands do random pit calls like that.

      Once Nothing: “Aaaaah, swing it!”
The Showdown: “Waaaaaooo, break it down!”

They sure do look stupid in print. I’m sure we could name some others.

someone call triple a here comes a breakdown!

    14. Chris | April 5th, 2008 | 11:54 am

Every reviewer has the right to his or her opinion. Whether you agree with it is up to you. I do have to agree with what Rick said. I thought the album was boring at best. Found nothing redeeming about it.

I have this cd in my computer and I need to listen to it. Maybe now is a good time.
