Mae show review = set list

Thursday night I went to see and interview Mae in Lancaster, PA. The tour included Far-Less, Between the Trees, The Honorary Title, and Mae. My plan was to write a show review, but due to circumstances outside of my control, I did not show up until after Far-Less had played, and my interview with Mae happened during Between the Trees’ set. So I thought it would be unfair to base my review of this tour on just the second two bands, especially when I’m only really familiar with Mae, so instead of writing that up, I’m going to give you a set list instead. View the rest of this post to read what songs Mae played. The interview, along with some photos, is on the way.

Mae’s setlist at The Chameleon Club, Lancaster, PA, on March 20.

    1. Futuro
    2. Embers and Envelopes
    3. All Deliberate Speed
    4. This Is the Countdown
    5. Brink of Disaster
    6. Suspension
    7. This Time Is the Last Time
    8. Skyline Drive
    9. Just Let Go
    10. Rocket
    11. Soundtrack for Our Movie
    12. Summertime
    13. The Everglow
    14. Goodbye, Goodnight

(Here Dave said “This is the part where we’re supposed to run off stage and pretend like we’re not coming back but then we actually do come back and play a few more songs. But that’s really kind of silly when you think about it, especially under these circumstances, so how about we just pretend we left and came back, okay? You guys just have to give us like 30 seconds to regroup first.”)

    15. We’re So Far Away
    16. Someone Else’s Arms

gee, they’re the first ones to come up with that idea. whatever. that is lazy.

    2. eric | March 24th, 2008 | 4:14 pm

Wait, what’s lazy? Not running off before the encore? Sorry if my presentation was off there… in context, it actually just made us all laugh. (and by “these circumstances,” I think he was referring to the small stage entrance.)

    3. Tyler H | March 24th, 2008 | 4:22 pm

oh well the small stage makes more sense…i guess…it sounded like they just say that at every show, which would be lame. even though encores are predictable, its part of the show, and adds to the show i think. it gets the audience excited for one last song (or more). gotta give the people what they want. even if its silly. there are a lot of silly things about rock shows, but its what you do, and in context its cool. but if there was no where to really run off to then i understand.

Ha. I went to the show in Washington DC last Wednesday. I was on a family vacation and somehow convinced my dad to let me go. Far-Less wasn’t there because the venue wouldn’t let more than 3 bands play at once.

Between the Trees were good, but The Honorary Title was kind of boring and the lead singer liked to use language. Mae was great and seemed to play a good amount of their older stuff. And the opener song was Futuro, from Destination: B-Sides.

    5. eric | March 24th, 2008 | 5:43 pm

Thanks Katie, I’ll change that right now.

    6. John Wayne | March 24th, 2008 | 8:00 pm

It’s almost like they admit to the failure that is Singularity. I hope I can catch this show when it come through here, though. It’ll be good to hear good, OLD mae.

    7. Manuel | March 24th, 2008 | 8:54 pm

I was going to go to the one in DC, but decided, eh..they’re just going to sing songs from Singularity, and also, I dont want to see those other crap-of-bands.

    8. Dan | March 24th, 2008 | 9:14 pm

Just got back from the show in Slippery Rock. FANTASTIC! I see a lot of shows, and I was really impressed with Mae especially. Played a lot of old stuff, had some really neat live show elements, etc.

    9. eric | March 24th, 2008 | 9:41 pm

Yeah Dan, the visuals were awesome. Mae had a slideshow type thing that timed all these little video clips with their songs perfectly. It was a really great effect.

Still wish I could have seen Far-Less. Those guys play some awesome tunes. At least I got to hang out with them for a little during someone else’s set, haha. They’re a ton of fun to talk to, too.

    10. The Headless Horseman | March 25th, 2008 | 8:34 am

John Wayne, that was my first thought too. I mean, they didn’t even play the first single (”Sometimes I Can’t Make It Alone”). Shame you couldn’t see Far-Less, Eric, but that’s the way it goes.

    11. John Wayne | March 25th, 2008 | 8:41 am

Indeed, Far-Less is the reason to see this tour. They are the nicest dudes and they get no love. I’ve seen them once where I was the only fan that showed up and another where there were like 10 of us. They’ve finally gotten on a good tour and I hope that helps them.

    12. Tyler H | March 25th, 2008 | 9:22 am

i thought you were gonna post an interview?

    13. Brandon | March 25th, 2008 | 10:08 am

The interview is coming soon Tyler, just be patient.

    14. eric | March 25th, 2008 | 10:16 am

Sorry, I typed up the interview yesterday, but I had to send it to their management first to make sure it was all appropriate to post (don’t get mad at Mae, that’s standard interview procedure), and they haven’t gotten back to me yet because the last two or three questions got cut off from my recording, so I had to re-ask them in the email, so it’s just a matter of waiting for Zach to be able to have the time to sit and answer those. But then it will all be great… I promise you guys, this is a good interview. He talks a lot about moving to a major, being on the radio, the differences and difficulties with Singularity, tacos, and some other cool stuff. Believe me, it’s worth the wait.

    15. joe | March 26th, 2008 | 12:26 am

Far-Less deserves to get so much more recognition than they do.

    16. The Headless Horseman | March 26th, 2008 | 7:51 am

      ^Seconded.

    17. One Crushing Blow | March 26th, 2008 | 8:33 am
