Great Way to End the Year

Apparently some guy wrote me tonight telling me that there is a Neo Nazi band in Australia with the name Quick and the Dead and that they have been a band for a long time. Grrrrreeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaattttttt. Lucky for us, our Quick and the Dead broke up or I would have been in another situation like I was in with the band “Josiah”. Yeah back then the official Josiah from the UK basically sent us a cease and desist letter demanding the band change their name or else. Lame. Oh well. Here’s to a better 2008 ;)

    Our City Sleeps Review

The Our City Sleeps’ review is up.

    Our City Sleeps- Wake Up!

    Band: Our City Sleeps
    Album: “Wake Up!”
    Label: Unsigned
    Released: Fall/Winter 2007

Our City Sleeps combines pop with indie rock to make a brand of catchy rock ’n’ roll all their own. Their sound is somewhere in between the artsy styling of Cool Hand Luke and the pop/rock hooks of Forever Changed.  The recording is pretty decent on this album, but I feel like it fails to capture the energy these guys have when they play live. And to be fair capturing that energy is a hard thing to accomplish. Nevertheless, this album is a great listen to hold you over until you get the chance to catch these guys live and then you’ll understand what I mean.

I love the guitars in their songs. It reminds me of older rock and rockabilly bands. Our City Sleeps also makes good use of keyboards and xylophones to place in some electronica interludes and add a little bit of flair to their songs. They are also able to utilize their instruments to create moments of ambience like in their song “Caesura” that add an epic overtone to the record. The vocals of this band are also top-notch. The lead vocalist’s voice has a commanding aura about it that makes you bob your head to the music and sing along.

Overall, this a great debut release by a promising up and coming Christian indie band. Production isn’t as great as I would want it to be, but this is their first release and without record label support so I’m going to shut up about that. Stand out tracks are “Wake Up!”, “Lying Wake”, and “Questions”. The lyrics are heartfelt and provide a candid take on the musicians’ faith in God.

P.S. be sure to listen for the hidden track. It will be your theme song every time you order Chinese takeout.

    Score: 8.5/10

    Happy New Year, tomorrow.

One Star Story have posted “Crushed Beneath the Wait” on their MySpace. The cut is taken from The Empty Room, out sometime in 2008 from Transatlantic Records.

    Hail to the Redskins!

My “Best of” list has been compiled and posted in the Music Forums. Check it out. Repost what you agree or disagree with, or make a list of your own and add it to my thread.

Staff Favorites and Best of Lists

Our best of lists have been posted in the “Music” section of the forums. I have noticed that there are quite a few staff members that have not posted their “Best of” favorites yet and I encourage them all to do so today!! You can also post your favorites beneath this post in the comments if you wish. Staff members can also post their favorites in the comments section as well if you don’t want to use the forums. Here is my best of list of albums I continually listen to. There are just so many albums I am into that I forgot to mention or left off the list by accident. Anyway, click here for my favorites. The rest can be found in the music forum.

    Happy End of the Year!

I’d like to send out a personal thanks to all of our devoted readers, fans, and staff writers who have been with us the past several years since we first started the zine. It’s because of all of you that I continue to do this little zine thing. I never expected this little site to blow up like it has in visitors. This month was our biggest month EVER in the history of Indie Vision Music.com!! Though our visitor count is modest in comparison to other sites, it’s still huge numbers for us. It’s amazing that we can do a site of this caliber without the support of advertising dollars. I owe that thanks to our store ;) I’d also like to thank Jorel and Unshadowed hosting for taking care of us and allowing us the bandwidth to continue. Thanks to Josh for being the solid support behind the site and for continually pushing us in newer and brighter directions. Josh is responsible for a lot of the ideas we have implemented the past few years, so thank you Josh. Thanks to David for designing our new theme and allowing us to stay current.

We have so much potential to grow and flourish for years to come. We have a lot of exciting ideas and there is always room to grow. My goal for the new year is to get a new designed Indie Vision site, a new designed myspace page, and new videos on our YouTube page (Thanks Jess). I am also aiming at getting a new exclusive online free compilation completed for the new year (Josh is working on it as well).

So let’s raise a toast to fruitful years to come, new memories, and a life based in God’s good graces. A relationship in Christ is one of the main reasons I continue doing Indie Vision Music and it’s the reason we promote the music we do with this site. I’m not afraid to stand for my faith in this faith bashing world nor am I embarrased to promote music from Christian artists that truly stand for something greater than all of us. Life isn’t about fame, popularity, or monetary gains. Life is about making changes for the better of all mankind and leaving a lasting mark on this small world we all live in. Long after the lights flicker out and your favorite bands break up (Or grow old), your faith is what is going to carry you on to your next life and it’s going to be what sustains you for many more years to come.

So God Bless each of you, thank you for the friendship and community, and here’s to a wonderful 2008!

    -Brandon Jones

I’d Like to Introduce The Kase Project

The Kase Project- R&B and funk laced rock straight out of Lynchburg, Virginia. When I first heard about them, I heard that they were an R&B group and I was immediately turned off by the thought. But after seeing them live I fell in love with their music. They have such a feel good vibe and put on an amazing show.

    The 1911s New Music

The old school punk band The 1911s have new RAW demos up on their myspace. Go listen and then get ready for when they enter the studio. I know they have a lot of influence from the early 80’s punk bands but for some reason they remind me of old school Blamed. Oh and Mike Gentry who was in Joey’s Loss is the drummer for this band.

    Search the City Ep

Search The City has their entire 2006 ep up for streaming on their myspace page. Go listen. Their debut for Tooth and Nail will be out sometime in 08′.

    If You Love Paramore…

If you love Paramore then this might be exciting for you.  Hayley Williams, lead singer of Paramore, turned 19 yesterday (Thursday). Crazy to think how much her and the band have achieved already and they are not that old at all. (absolutepunk.net)
