Hey label reps, I know you’re reading this. Sign these bands!
One of my favorite new bands, MY EPIC, are doing a little winter tour starting December 28th and they need your help with dates. This is mostly a tour of the east coast. So head over to their myspace page and look at the dates, if you can help, send them a message.
I always forget to mention how awesome this band is. Woodale has an ep out that we carry in our store for only $5. Listen to them on myspace, then come back and click here to buy this very cool album.
I am currently out of stock on Quick and the Dead cds but I will have more as soon as their new album is finished. So yes, I’ll have two of their cds available to purchase. Check these guys out on myspace because they wont be unsigned for long.
I also hear alot of talk about Every New Day and Avery Pkwy. Those two groups seem to have a strong buzz as well about them. I still dont get why a bigger label hasn’t signed Every New Day yet. This is a band that Solid State needs. Those guys have talent like you’d never believe. Avery Pkwy has a lot of talent as well. Joel is doing something unique and challenging with his music with such a spiritual passion. I really haven’t ever heard anything quite like it before. I could easily see a smaller label re-releasing his full length. The Militia Group maybe? Hmmm.
I have the Olivia cd (which we sell too by the way) and I think these guys have real talent and passion for what they do. It’s very suprising to me that they haven’t been signed by a major yet, which they are aiming for. Maybe a band scout is reading this so drop what you’re doing, put down the donut, and check this band out.
This is only a small list of great unsigned bands (with the exception of Every New Day who are signed) that need your attention. I have list of tons more that I always forget to mention so I’ll pop those out periodically. Josh knows alot of good bands too which he is always throwing your way. Please check these bands out when we mention them and keep supporting independent music. Every signed band has to start somewhere.

Like sand through the hourglass……..
P.O.D has a new song up on Myspace from their upcoming “Greatest Hits” collection that is due to release on November 21st. I highly recommend the song because for P.O.D, it’s pretty good. If you like that sort of stuff.
For you old school metal heads, Deliverance is back together and has new music coming soon in the form of a cd titled “Enlightened”. For now go to their official myspace page and check out the new song. They’ll be touring in 2007. Bring on the metal!! I remember listening to “Learn” when I was a newbie and rocking out to it. That was a long time ago.
Speaking of a long time ago (it feels like ages), I was supposed to have my 10 year high school reunion on Friday night (wow, I feel dated) but guess what, it got cancelled. Well actually the reunion company went out of business then another woman decided to take over duties and no one paid up so it just got cancelled. Though I’m not surprised. Slackers, slackers I tell you! It’s crazy to think how fast time flies. It feels just yesterday that I was the age of you kids and putting on shows, watching Tooth and Nail explode and witnessing the likes of Mxpx, Plankeye, Focused, Unashamed, Supertones, Value Pac, P.O.D, and Strongarm. Why am I telling you this? I really have no idea. It’s nonsense I tell you. The lesson of the story, enjoy every minute of your life because it will pass you by in an instant. In another two years I’ll be 30 and then it’s all downhill from there. ha ha. Just kidding. That’s actually a good year because I will have been married for 10 years (yes I got married at almost 20). I recommend marriage by the way, it’s so awesome people. I love having my wife by my side each and every day. I couldn’t be any happier. Well, that’s the end of my rambling for the day. I promise we’ll provide you with news that follows the trends of music and not the store or my life. Well at least for the rest of today

He Is Legend - Suck Out the Poison

Artist: He Is Legend
Album: Suck Out the Poison
Label: Solid State Records
Release Date: October 3, 2006
Review by: Eric Pettersson
After a successful EP on Tribunal Records, Solid State Records felt compelled to respond to the buzz around He Is Legend. Their fall 2004 debut, I Am Hollywood, was a great stretch for the band, giving them what vocalist Schuylar Croom called a very “sassy” sound. Their musical originality and diversity, as well as their incredible ability to balance out spurts of brutal energy with melody and catchy choruses, drew fans of metal, alternative, rock, emo, punk, and hardcore. They had developed quite a fan base, but looking at the change from that first EP to the full album, people should have expected He Is Legend to want to do something new with their next release. They posted “Mushroom River” on their MySpace about a month before the release of Suck Out the Poison, which was met with great disappointment and anger from many fans who said they sounded too nu-metal. Later, Schuylar revealed in an interview with absolutepunk.net that they had released this song first because it was least like the last album, and they enjoyed the partially negative response. Basically, He Is Legend is out there to play some songs and have some fun, and Suck Out the Poison does exactly this.
Thematically, “Dixie Wolf (the Seduction of)” picks up the new album quite literally where the last one started. This is a continuation of their previous single “The Seduction,” continuing to use the names Romeo and Juliet in a metaphor for a failed relationship. Musically, changes are noticed right away. Schuylar’s voice is a little more raw, probably from so much screaming on tours. The guitars seem to have also taken on a new tone which reminds me of P.O.D. or Project 86, circa 2001, but these riffs are still very much He Is Legend. “Attack of the Dungeon Witch” starts off unsure, but after bringing back their signature fast guitar lines and dark fairy tale lyrics, fans can be sure to enjoy this track. When seeing them live, expect some sick pits for the last minute of this one. “Suck Out the Poison” compares a girl to deadly poison, and is my least favorite track on the album as something about the chorus just screams corporate radio classic rock. As stated earlier, “Mushroom River” is probably the song that differs most from I Am Hollywood, as it starts as a more solid hard rock song until the very end when it gets a little harder and the vocals take to a deeper growl. It also features one of my favorite choruses on the album, “I used to be you, and you used to be me. Her body is a drug. That’s why you feel so crazy. We are the things that were and we shall be them again. Although these were all dreams, you will never wake from them.” Up next is a clever and new move for He Is Legend, a minute long piano instrumental titled “Opening.” Another follow up song, “China White II,” is the darkest sounding song here, and also the creepiest lyrically. There’s one line that makes me shudder every time I hear it. The heaviness is continued into “Serpent Sickness” which begs to be let out of someone’s mind, but also says “I’m afraid without you, of the things that I might do.” It ends with the sound of a crowd cheering slowly faded in, working with the drums as a transition to “Electric Throat,” which begins with a very southern guitar flair before launching into the screamed verses and sung choruses, occasionally bringing back the southern influence. “Stampede” is a fast energetic track that pays homage to John Denver by including the lines “Country road, take me home. To the place where I belong.” This song transitions flawlessly into “The Widow of Magnolia,” so much so that sometimes I have to look at my CD player after thirty seconds to realize that a new song had started. This one tells of the despair of a man whose wife drowned at sea. “The Pot Bellied Goddess” is another great short story set to song, following the basic musical approach of the rest of the album. From here we enter another instrumental, “Cannonball Hands (The Tomato Parade),” which mellows things out for a few minutes and is led mostly by the bass and an airy guitar, backed by a spacey keyboard. “Goldie’s Torn Locks” talks about a boy having to deal with his mom leaving and his dad getting drunk. It ends with the line “I am the child who saw everything.” He Is Legend decided again to go all out with the closer, making “(((louds” 8 minutes and 40 seconds long, splitting their sound with a woman singing loudly for a minute or two in the middle.
He Is Legend has successfully grown their sound, while still remaining the same band. Suck Out the Poison leaves a lot of things behind, and picks up a lot of things along the way. In the end, I really can’t say whether it is better than I Am Hollywood, but it is still a great album that will hopefully not lose too many fans while drawing in new ones.

I got in a big shipment today for the store but I was kinda disappointed with the final count. I didn’t receive all the Brandtson albums nor did I receive alot of other stuff that I ordered (they are now out of stock and unavailable). So if you see some Brandtson albums that are missing in order, you’ll know why. I will try my best to get the rest of the stuff soon. So with that said, please visit our store tonight or tomorrow and view some of the albums that I have time to post in the store. There are too many albums to list here so you’ll just have to visit the store to see what I got in. I will try my best to get in T&N/Solidstate/Gotee/Mono Vs. Stereo/Credential stuff as soon as I get an account ready. So please stay tuned to this link right here for details.

Music Player?
Yes folks, we do in fact have a “music player” in our possession. You’ll see it in the upper left hand corner of this site. Just click on it and listen for hours. I highly recommend track#2 which is a Leeland song. I am going to be changing some of the songs out later tonight and put up new ones. So please listen to these old ones before they disappear into the abyss….

Kings to You
Kings to You are finally playing a show and it’s this Saturday at the Selah Building in Escondido. If you’re in the area, make sure to drive out and catch them. The band is still at work on their upcoming full length. They hope to have it ready in January. For you newcomers, this band was formerly known as Dismissed.
Imperial have 4 new songs up on MySpace.
Sagoh, the band that three members of Anberlin were in, is available on Itunes. Just do a search for “Sagoh” on Itunes and you’ll find the album “….then I corrupt youth” which was the last album Sagoh recorded in 2001. The band split up shortly after and Stephen, Deon, and Joey went on to form Anberlin. I think it’s really odd that this album ended up on Itunes considering how their former label, Rescue Records, is long gone. Anyway, I thought this was some interesting Sunday nonsense news. Enjoy. By the way, I think it’s sad that Five Iron Frenzy songs aren’t available on Itunes. Oh well.
Oh yeah one last thing, the Indie Vision Music shirts will be in my hands tomorrow so those will ship out on Tuesday to all of you who purchased one. For those of you who haven’t ordered one yet, well, what are you waiting for? Buy Indie Vision Music shirts right here.

I decided to drop the prices of every Indie Vision Music album to just $1each. Dismissed, Forgotten Arrival, Next in Line, Josiah (The Unfolding), Joey’s Loss, and the Hearts Bleed Passion album. In addition, I dropped the price on a few other albums. You can find all of them right here. I also got in new albums from He is Legend and Jonezetta. Order those here.

Stop what you’re doing and listen to this!
Stop everything and listen to the brand new Echoing Green track by clicking here. The Echoing Green also have a new merch store where you can get shirts, cds, and all that jazz. Click here for the store. I highly recommend this group to everyone of you readers. Their last full length on BEC/Tooth and Nail was incredibly underrated. Let’s hope Tooth and Nail puts some promotional push behind them and release their new effort.
The brand new label Holdfast Records have signed two great bands: Alcina, which if you read this site often you should be familiar with, and also Materia Medica. The Materia Medica release is a full discography on one disc (2 EP’s plus 2 unreleased tracks). Alcina will be heading into the studio soon to be recording their debut EP, set to release in early 2007.
Do you miss the old school punk and hardcore music like Bad Brains and Sick Of It All? Well God So Loved The World might just be up your alley. Though I don’t care much for the political take in American Holocaust the rest of the songs are enjoyable. I’m just hoping their new release isn’t all politically charged, because their other lyrics are better.
Wounded Records have added another band to their roster. Check out Gorilla Warfare. They recording a full length to release in Jan/Feb 2007 with half being new songs and half being the best of their current stuff.
Everyone knows The Echoing Green right? Well Joey B. (writer/producer from The Echoing Green) decided to team up with various female vocalists for an album under the name Pristina.
The pre-order for the new Stars Are Falling album is up here. They also have another downloadable song at the first link.
P.O.D. posted “Going Blind”, a new song off their upcoming greatest hits release.
You really should give a listen to the following:
On The Sidewalk Bleeding
Standing Small
Justin Kline
Phillip LaRue
