How awesome is Wolves At The Gate? I mean seriously, this band has released 4 full lengths (with 1 on the way), 3 EPs, and 1 Covers Ep plus stuff they may have done independently, all the while slipping under most people’s radars. Shane, why must you create such fresh, relevant, heart wrenching new music? This song literally grabs you by the throat and well, releases a flood of all the best emotions. In reality, this song does anything but “Choke” you but it does grip you with a collection of notes and music performed by a talented ensemble of well seasoned musicians. SPOILER ALERT: This is a fantastic release! 3 different bands playing 3 different styles (sub-sub-subgenres) of black metal. Each band contributes 2 songs, and while it would be logical to assume that 6 songs equals an EP, this album clocks in at 37 minutes, so I’m gonna call that a full-length. First up are TIMŌRĀTUS (from Louisville, KY), who continue to surprise and amaze me! Every album they do is in a different style, and amazingly they somehow manage to do them all well. Death Therapy are gearing up to release their follow up (2nd) full length on Solid State Records titled “Voices” which will drop on April 12th. There may be a few bands under a variation of this name but the heavy music duo known as TETELESTAI have been going at it for nearly 10 years and are here to present their nail biting, ear crushing new ep. Get pummeled and crushed by the biting sound of this band. The duo brings about heavy music in a unique manner and presents an ep set worth of songs without sacrificing the heaviness. I’ll Always Be the Same is a tiring listen. For an album that focuses on negative thoughts and emotions, the lyrics really accentuate the music. Human psychology is paradoxical in the sense that even when emotions and thoughts seem to repeat themselves, they can never actually be the same qualitatively, since they occur at different points in time. The music of The Drowned God is an effigy of consciousness, for the song structures are entirely unpredictable, even when there is repetition at either the lyrical or musical level.… Continued →

While this band hails from Louisville, I would have sworn they were from eastern Europe somewhere.  That’s a good thing.  Reverentia is yet another quality post-metal release I’ve come across recently.  But whereas the mysterious band God revel in djent rhythms and instrumental anthems to connect the listener to God, TIMŌRĀTUS takes a different approach altogether.  Each album is written and recorded in a different style.  I’ve sampled some of the other albums and there’s black metal, thrash, doom and experimental hybrids. The music on Reverentia was takes on form of post-metal is impregnated with black metal atmospherics, layers of shoegaze wall-of-sound sonics and doom metal riffs, creating a drone metal beast! … Continued →

This mysterious band has been making music since 2016.  Their website states, “GOD will challenge you to consider your life, death through the power of music.”  While I am in contact with the band members, repeated requests for information regarding the member(s) have been unsuccessful—even to the point of denying my request to know which country the band is from. This is the second album from the band, and there are two more planned—each one with a conceptual theme.  God I focused on the nature of God, while God II as the subtitle suggests, is all about the person and work of Jesus Christ. … Continued →

The band Hands first formed back in 2007, releasing a couple of “Demos” of which I was a strong supporter of. Their songs even appeared on a few of our early digital compilations. I followed Shane and his band’s work closely over the years following their formation from their first independent release, “The Everlasting Ep” (2008), to the incredible full length debut “The Sounds of Earth” (Oort Records/2009) to “Creator” (Facedown Records), “Give Me Rest” (Facedown Records” and finally after a much deserved break, their comeback single “New Heaven / New Earth” (2017/Facedown Records).… Continued →
