I loved Spoken from the moment their 3rd record dropped “Echoes of the Spirit Still Dwell”. The minute I heard this song, “Promise”, from the album “Moment of Imperfect Clarity”, I couldn’t shake my Spoken fandom. This band and their music came out at the perfect time post-9/11. It was uplifting, positive, and the songs were incredibly addictive in melodies. The Used, Story of the Year, Senses Fail, and Blindside all would have made perfect tour mates during this time period. The song “Promise” was really an inspirational song, one that felt like a warm pat on the back and an embrace when you feel broken and miserable.… Continued →

So, 2018 is behind us, another year on the books. After having put together a list of my favorite releases for the year, I decided to try going in the opposite direction and form a list of the albums I’m anticipating most in the coming year. This is a not only a monumental accomplishment but also reflects the longevity of a music project that has transcended music scenes and style shifts over the years. Spoken are busy at it once again and have begun tracking their new album. This will be the follow up to “Breathe Again” which released in 2015. Unfortunately recent guitarist/songwriter Scoop Roberts will be stepping away from the band after they record this new album. You can watch a video below detailing why. A couple of weeks ago I spent an entertaining evening with Matt Baird (and some local talent) at a coffee shop, where Matt was performing an acoustic set.  He had been traveling for 2 weeks playing acoustic gigs, just him, his guitar, and his family.  The city of Minot, where I currently reside, was his final stop before a very short 2-day break until it was back on the road again, this time with the entire band in tow.  The tiny coffee shop was filled with young aspiring artists, and as each performed Matt paid close attention. … Continued →
