Song of the Day: Destroy Nate Allen - B**bie Bar

Destroy Nate Allen is a fun, energetic band that mixes the simplicity and energy of punk rock with the acoustic sounds of folk, making for an interesting take on folk-punk. Quirky but sincere lyrics and vocal styles combine with straight-forward messages–usually on subjects other artists don’t want to touch–make for both a challenging and entertaining listen. Take “Boobie Bar” for instance. On the one hand it’s a crude song whose title I had to censor, just so it doesn’t get picked up by filters. On the other hand, the intent behind the song is just about as pure as it gets: Don’t go down to the boobie bar If you want a real relationship, you won’t get far Don’t go to that boogie bar The song comes from their 2012 album, With Our Powers Combined.… Continued →

Names Without Numbers - New Song "Florida" Coming Soon

Names Without Numbers are back in a big way on January 13th. Their new song “Florida” will drop on that date and we have a little teaser to offer all of you. This is without a doubt the band’s strongest song to date and further reminds me of just how good they are, not just in regards to indie music but rock n roll as a whole. There is a lot of content floating around out there passing off as legitimate music but really lacks the meat and substance.… Continued →

DIY Together

Zach Bridier of Captive Portal, and October Bird of Death (not to mention DBD Tapes) has put together a pretty impressive punk rock collaboration album titled “DIY Together”. It features singers from bands around the globe lending their voice for each track on the release. This is heavy yet melodic, blunt, in your face, and enlightening raw punk. A lot of these songs are great, my favorite being Track #7 which you can take a listen to below. Make sure to support this DIY Together release by downloading right here via bandcamp.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Stavesacre - Gold & Silver

I’m starting a new feature here at IVM that’ll focus on a beautiful, important, and defining song for a particular band. Let’s start this feature off right and put the focus on the music of Stavesacre, particularly the song “Gold & Silver”. I remember 20 years ago hearing this album (Speakeasy) which had this almost “ballad” like track named “Gold & Silver” then being struck in the heart heavily by it’s somber melodies, inspired lyrical delivery, and that unmistakable voice of Mark Salomon. This is beyond just a typical ballad you’d hear in a grocery store, shopping mall, etc.… Continued →

REVIEW : Desiring Dead Flesh - That Suuck'd

For those who don’t know, Desiring Dead Flesh are a 3-piece hardcore punk band from Michigan, entirely made up of family members Bryan (vocals, father), Adam (drums, son), and Ravyn (guitar, daughter). Yep, just drums, guitar and vox—no bass or anything else. This is raw, fast punk rock. While it would be tempting to think this is simplistic, that would be missing the mark. The rhythms are much more complex, angular, and asymmetrical to be simple. Raw, yes, but not simplistic. What’s interesting is how difficult it is to find a point of comparison.… Continued →

Emery "Be A Part of Our New Bus" Campaign + Live Album

Emery have had their fair share of problems recently with tour vehicles breaking down but the band keeps pressing on like the solid road warriors they are. The band bought a really old bus and are currently in the process of renovating it. As you can see from the LIVE video they filmed yesterday, they still have quite a ways to go (no AC, and in the heat of West Coast). So this is where we call come in. The band has launched a little campaign via their website here where you can get an exclusive 17 track LIVE album for $25.… Continued →
