Song of the Day: Jesus Freaks - Hate vs Sub-Train - Epidermis

Jesus Freaks was a thrash groove metal band that changed their name to Sub-Train after releasing 2 albums. They had some decent Christian metal airplay back in the day. Yeah they sounded like Metallica ripoff, but I’m not too worried about it. They still have headbanging music! And yes, I thought about this band when DC Talk came out with their Jesus Freak stuff.  And as a sidenote, Scott Waters’ No Life Til Metal site has a great review on them as he toured with them while with Ultimatum.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Tourniquet - Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance

Tourniquet-What am I to say about one of my top 5 bands ever? Besides some outstanding songwriting & metal music, the band has stood the test of time. They have been going since the 90s. I remember You Get What You Pray For on an Intense Records comp & I was hooked. Pathogenic was one of the first cds I bought (first was Rich Mullins’ Winds of Heaven & Paul Smith’s Human Touch) & I got it the same day as Galactic Cowboys Space in Your Face.… Continued →

Song of the Day - Believer -Dies Irae (Day of Wrath)

Believer is a Pennsylvanian 4 piece technical thrash metal band. Forming in 1985 they changed their name from Deceiver. I remember buying their Sanity Obscure LP in my hometown of Normal, Illinois & then later getting a cassette tape of Dimensions. A few years back they released 3 2-song singles & I haven’t seen anything from them since. This SOTD I have seen as one the origins of the symphonic metal scene. Below are the Latin lyrics along with their meaning & a live video also.… Continued →

Testimony of Apocalypse (Feat. Members of Sacrament) - Redemption (Demo)

Testimony of Apocalypse are an insane new metal band featuring members of classic Thrash Metal band, Sacrament. While members of Sacrament await their potential reunion in the future, a couple members got together and have pursued this really great new project called Testimony of Apocalypse, which is actually named after the Sacrament album of the same name. Check out the DEMO of a new track titled “Redemption”, below. The band plan to release their debut full length in the spring of 2022 via a label on the rise, The Charon Collective.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Eternal Decision - Overflow

Eternal Decision had gotten some flack about sounding too much like early Metallica (a la ED’s song Hunger) just like another metal band, Jesus Freaks.  I don’t mind because a lot of music sounds like so & so. This song, pulled from their 1997 Godfather Records S/T, in particular was destined to be a fave of mine because of the Scooby Doo intro! I’ve even had some Facebook conversations with vocalist Joe Chambless & drummer Bill Meeks some years ago. Some other bands the members were in worth checking out are Awake which does 2 greats More Like You & Carry Me along with a more laid band rock band Veehr that has the catchy Everyone.… Continued →

10 Essential Christian thrash albums that you MUST hear before you die

I don’t know what you think of when you hear the term “heavy metal” or more specifically “Christian metal.” Do you think of spandex or goat heads? Hairspray and makeup or the devil? Fortunately for the bands in this list, none of those things are really the issue. I started getting in underground music somewhere around 1988. (Yes, I’m old.) I started out listening to mainstream Christian rock like Petra and Russ Taff, then got into heavier stuff like Whitecross, Sacred Warrior and Jerusalem. And then .… Continued →

Believer releases new EP, to continue releasing music throughout 2017

The progressive thrash metal band, Believer has began to release their long-awaited new music. Though not all at once. It seems that they are releasing them two songs at a time, or at least this EP only had two tracks. This EP, just called 1 of 5, has two tracks: “Home” and “888”. The band formed in 1986 as Deceiver, but changed their name to Believer the next year. They released three albums though the label R.E.X. Music and then went their separate ways in 1993.… Continued →

Dave Gryder, ex-Heaven's Force, Interviewed

Recently, Dave Gryder of the band Heaven’s Force was interviewed. Heaven’s Force is thought to be the first Christian thrash metal band. Though not as popular as bands like Vengeance Rising or Tourniquet or even Detritus or Ultimatum, Heaven’s Force pioneered the genre, unknown to most of the world from the year they started, 1983, up until 2009, when the band re-released their demos in the form of a compilation. The full interview can be read here.… Continued →
