The Choir Release New Songs

If there was ever a band to perfectly represent the depths to where “Christian Music” can go in regards to talent, songwriting, and even with longevity, that band would be The Choir. The band themselves have been together in one form or another for nearly 4 decades now, and making creatively connecting music for almost the same amount of time. The band is still working on NEW music and just recently put their “Patreon Sessions” collection of recent songs up on all digital networks. Audiofeed Festival has come to fill the void that Cornerstone left when it ceased to exist a decade ago. The creators of Audiofeed took a stand, brought along some experience and a diverse taste for remarkable independent music and further seek to share that undeniable influence with a new generation of music goers. Times have changed in the past decade but the one constant thread running through is that everyone still appreciates good music and are thirsting for something of substance.… Continued →

And the Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album Goes to.... Kanye West

So maybe a handful of people actually tuned into the Grammy Awards last night to feel the full brunt of relevance that awards shows have actually turned into (sarcasm). Well surprisingly enough but not really, considering the mass appeal (and star power) coming from one such winner in the “Contemporary Christian Music Album” category at the Grammys last night. That’s right, Kanye West took home the top prize in that category for his album “Jesus Is King”. It’s a tough thing for any artist to break into an industry/music scene that isn’t of the same comfort zone that they are usually use to so congrats to Kanye for shaking things up.… Continued →

Seeking "Cover Songs" by Christian Artists for New Playlist on Spotify

I am sending this post out there into the webiverse to gather songs for a new spotify playlist I just created. It is (tentatively) being called “The Best Christian Cover Songs” and is a play off Christians who cover popular (and not so popular) songs. Please list artist name covering a song and song title below this post in the comments section so I can take your suggestions and add them. What you see now on Spotify is just me recalling stuff off the top of my head.… Continued →

Song of the Day: Black Eyed Sceva - Handshake

I don’t know what it is but maybe today’s dark and stormy skies along with a heavy downpour elicits a moody yet introspective response to music. A song such as “Handshake” really makes you stop and think. I still believe after all these years that the band Black Eyed Sceva (and later known as ‘Model Engine’) were brilliant songwriters, Jeremy Post in particular. There was something magical in their music and the way they conveyed these emotions through song. They may not have been widely known or celebrated as “Rock stars” but their music was incredibly important to me.… Continued →

The Altar Boys - A Voice Lost, A Voice Found (The Story Behind 'No Substitute')

The long running, “legends in the making” Christian band known as The Altar Boys who have survived for decades and somehow come out on top with their best album ever, “No Substitute”. The group has just offered a behind the scenes glimpse of just why it is they returned with this new album after a nearly 25 year absence from new recorded music. The fact that their music has endured for different generations and continued to influence youth who are now adults with families of their own is testament to the power of music and Faith.… Continued →

Gravity Galore: A Brief History of Christian Songs Titled "Gravity"

“Fire” and “water” are arguably the most overused metaphors in contemporary Christian music. But there is another common nature-themed metaphor in Christian music you may not have noticed: gravity. I by no means consider my research to be exhaustive, but I found nearly two dozen songs from the past 25 years with “gravity” in the title. Researching Christian music prior to the 1990’s is a difficult task. While I have little doubt that this theme continues back into the 80’s and maybe even 70’s the earliest contemporary Christian song titled “Gravity” I’ve been able to find so far* is from 1995.… Continued →

The Legacy of Christian Artists

This is an amazing article and I understand the sentiments so clearly. This is something that has weighed heavily on my heart too. I’ve made like minded statements around the web the past several years similar in ways to which this article is written. The notion that the passing legacies of once great artists seemingly gets forgotten, rings true in the hearts and minds of us aging fans and rockers. All those artists who’ve decided to call it quits over the past 30+ years (I can list tons of names) shouldn’t be forgotten or for their albums and art to go out of print.… Continued →
