Atombender

Atombender is a group of six close friends from the Ames, Iowa area who came together as a band because of their love of music. Atombender is known locally for their energetic and chaotic live shows and melodic punk sound mixed with the unique sounds of trumpet, trombone, and keyboards. Drawing from a huge variety of influences, Atombender’s sound can’t exactly be pigeonholed, and that’s the way they like it. The members put as much energy and joy as they possibly can into playing their music and hope to evoke those same feelings in you.

The Jellyrox

The Jellyrox (side project of Matt Langston of Eleventyseven) will release a new full length on 3/20/2012. Make sure to check it out. [Bio] The Appalachian mountain ranges have been the birthplace of many a musician. From bootlegging and Civil war battlefields, to the country’s first craft guilds, they have been a haven and muse for many a songwriter. Taking all that into account it seems like only a slight juxtaposition for it to also be the birthplace of an electronic pop act. The Jellyrox, consisting only of Eleventyseven front man Matt Langston, is that act. Where most folks in Appalachia find themselves within arm’s reach of a fiddle or banjo, Langston’s instruments of choice is the synthesizer. Having formed out of a desire to pursue an entirely electronic sound, The Jellyrox “isn’t a far stretch from the pop song writing sensibilities of Eleventyseven, just a different approach to the music” Langston says. He ads, “My love for music has it’s roots almost exclusively in 80′s pop, so this feels like a pretty natural adventure”. After releasing a self-titled E.P. in 2010, The Jellyrox’s debut album, Heta Himlen, is set to release online March 20th, 2012. While the Swedish title is roughly translated into “Hot Heavens”, it seems like a most appropriate summation of the album sonically. Dreamy synth textures float effortlessly over driving dance beats that mesh the highlights of the 80′s with the sleek punch of modern electropop. As the early musical mountaineers before him forged their own sound with the instrumentation of their day, so Langston has chosen his own indigenous sonic tools and crafted something completely unique. Heta Himlen stands as a strong debut from this Carolina native, and points the way for a promising direction for the one-man synth act.

Josiah James

Josiah James will be releasing his brand new album “All Forgotten Things” this Friday, January 6th.
Hi, my name’s Josiah, and I’m a mess up who loves Jesus and I play music because I believe in something far greater then the emptiness this world has to offer. I picked up the guitar when I was in junior high and felt strongly that it was a ministry God wanted me to pursue. Most of my high school life was spent home schooled, writing and recording demos and performing at churches and venues across northern California. My senior year I started touring out of state and selling my demo’s to whoever wanted to listen. After my Freshman year of college, I realized I could not juggle writing, recording, touring across the west coast and school. I then released my first full length CD, “The Morning Light”, and put off college to start touring full time.

Hymns From Nineveh

Self described as “Devotional Folkpop”, Hymns of Nineveh, the solo project of a Jonas Petersen of Denmark, has released a new Christmas themed album titled “Endurance in Christmas Time” [Amazon]. It took me a little while to get into listening mode on this new album but I finally did, and I am thankful to have found a great new addition to my Christmas music collection. If you dig the musical styling of groups like Anathallo, Sufjan Stevens, Damien Jurado, Mumford & Sons, The Decemberists, then you’ll fall in love with these songs. Perfect for any Christmas collection. Hymns of Ninevah also released a “Self Titled” album earlier this year. Listen to a track off of “Endurance in Christmas Time”, below.
