Analyzing Iron Sharpens Iron - "Justice"

A while back I had the opportunity to connect with Iron Sharpens Iron and be one of the first to review their Beware the Wolves EP. For a recap, the band had a moving and powerful testimony that helped to feed even more passion into an album that was dominantly leaning towards power metal.

With their recent release of the song “Justice,” see lyric video below, the band begins to expand their range into the metalcore genre. As Brandon noted, rather than a RIYL that would stray towards Blessed by a Broken Heart, now the band is going head to head with the likes of Phinehas and August Burns Red. So how does the new track fare?

The biggest worry I had when ISI let me know they were going metalcore was that the best elements of their EP would be lost in the mix. Instead, the band is brining to the table a solid round of metalcore that still holds a shred (ha, get it) of the influence from their power-metal past. The song has some monstrously deep bass, some skilled drum work, and guitars that play skillfully to their new sound while brining in some of the old, as well.

If ISI can continue to bring powerfully deep sounds set against Scripture heavy lyrics, I will continue to have high hopes for Iron Sharpens Iron’s future. Be sure to check out the video below and continue to pray for the band’s ministry and music as they do what they can to make finances work out along the way.
